Hello everyone, sorry I didn't see a forum to introduce myself, but I wanted to ask about logos. Can people share the experiences it acquiring one please, I am undecided about using a service or sponsoring a design contest. The costs are about the same, but I kind of like the idea of supporting the freelance designer?

I'm sure the same thoughts go through most magazine's heads..."Why pay for an ad photographer when we can host a contest for the same cost? Think of the exposure !"

So a freelance photographer who does a great work would earn more the a staff photographer, sounds like a decent idea - but magazines don't do that, they would rather save money using a underpaid staff photographer.

So back to my question, can anyone share their experiences with getting a logo designed?

Pay an established designer to do it. It may be pricey but it's going to be the first thing that people see and the first thing people think of when they associate with you. I see so many crappy logos around here and I just think why they'd want to put that forward as their identity. It's not cheap but it defines who you are.

Anthony S - I'm a graphic designer... definitely hire a freelancer or even a college design student. When I was in college I used to offer my services for free to build a portfolio. Try to find someone eager to learn and throw them some beer money. If you want a proffesional just be prepared to pay. Logo design can get pricey but it's also an art. Many people don't understand why it can be so expensive but it's your brand, it's the most important part about your company.

Definitely interested in a logo designer and willing to pay, within reason. Where are they all hiding?

Mine started as a project on here > http://www.designoutpost.com/

Was a great way to get lots of concepts from different designers because I didn't have a clue what I wanted at the start. Sincethe original design (which is pretty much as it is in my Avatar) I have also paid out to livebooks to integrate it into my wedding portfolio website and also to this Graphic artist (http://www.graphic-artwork.co.uk/home/home.php) for things like business cards, banners etc.... unless your a graphic designer yourself its definitely worth buying this skill in, I am always much happier with stuff a pro has designed for me than stuff I have knocked up myself.

I've started into logo design. I'm in the building the portfolio stage, but prefer paypal to beer. ;) I'll send you a pm with some details.
