View Full Version : New Firework Technique?

This was the second night of fireworks that I photographed. I started to get a little bored with the standard "just put it on a tripod and 'bulb' it for about 10 seconds." I don't know if anyone else has done this yet; here is my procedure:

1:Set up camera on tripod and loosen enough that you can move the camera, but it will stay still if you're careful (I used a ball-head Slik U-212)
2:Track firework with camera. Keep in middle (generally - not doing this has interesting results, too) of frame.
3:When the firework explodes, zoom in steadily.

For these shots I used a Sigma 70-300 (started at 70, ran to 300). I was probably a half-mile away from the fireworks. I was using ISO 100, Aperture usually between 4 and 12. Let me know what you think!

Interesting. I like the results.
