I took these shots of an English Thistle but they've been down graded for uploading. Anyway i set it up in my kitchen and snaped away using various settings with my G6, things like lowering the flash output and decreasing the exposure. I will also be getting a small piece of black velvet black cloth for true black.

I do prefer the top shot but was experimenting with a water spray for the second shot, but other people might have their own opinions, i hope you enjoy...?? :)

Thanks Bald Eagle, if it wasn't for the damn wind i would've liked to have done these outside and used DOF for more impact....??

i take back what i said earlier, i like both of them equally, and i dont think in this instance, I'd change anything, composition is great, and so are the colors as well. very sharp.

Thanks again Bald Eagle, to see them in full detail is even greater, its a shame i had to upload them with a very low resolution but we can't have evrything now can we. Apperently my Mum wants this printing off to hang in her kitchen, its a pity i can't get a shot of the Scottish thistle, there really big and more colourful.

Hey, Manny.

Don't you just love testing...:D ...I like your shots, great colors and sharp. The background works pretty well for me, but let me ask you, what flash did you use?

And I would love to see some shots from top and bottom...thanks for sharing.

My best regards,
Artan.

P.S.

I don't know why, but it gives me the feeling like it has been shot underwater, somewhere deep...(the first shot)...

Thanks Arton, the flash i use but you may not believe it is the buit in one, i do have an off-camera flash gun but it only works in manual because its the digital one from Jessops and is harder to control for correct flash, one day though i will get a cannon speedlight. I like the built in because of the great control you have on its output. For the this shot i decreased the flash by -1.5 stops and decreased the exposure by -1 stop which gave good colour and contrast and the there is the Photoshop CS2 editing. And yes it does look like something from the sea, a ANEMIA.

I do have a question for you though, i did put up this question before but got no reply, its about the manual focus for DOF in landscapes, when you select the manual focus there is the numbers on the right hans side 1, 2, 5...etc, (now i have my g6 set to Metres and CM) would this mean then that if set the manual focus to 1-Metre wouls it mean that i will get a DOF from 1-Metre to infinity.....?

Kindest regards,
Karl.

Manny,
Thank you for your thorough reply. Unfortunately the MF for Hyperfocal Distance doesn't work that way. I usualy use MF when I do protraits and close shots, even macro because I can make use of the zoom part and make a shallow DOF behind.
If you want to create a great DOF than you have to use the DOF calculator which you could find here http://www.dofmaster.com/hyperfocal.html also from Flowe http://homepage.hispeed.ch/flowe/digifoto/hfd_dof.htm and also you could check http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/understanding-series/dof.shtml .

I hope this answers your question... .

My regards,
Artan
