I took these pics in January at the Yanni Concert in Tampa. I've had a toug time in the past getting concert/theater pics in dark settings. I think for the most part, these came out pretty good.

All that has been done to these pics is cropping/resizing and minor sharpening.

All taken using the S1-IS. Full EXIF Data can be found at the gallery page under each thumbnail.

I can't figure out why Yanni get's such a bad rap from people... I've seen him 3 times and think he is one of the best touring acts around, and his music is incredible! I think most of the people that rip at him, probably haven't taken the time to try to understand his music, and just think that it is foo-foo elevator music... Not at all. I will say though that his older stuff is WAY better than his newer stuff, but he still delivers an incredible show!

BTW great photos!!

I agree. Some of his stuff is just so-so. This was an incredible concert though. Everybody on that stage was a world class musician and they were all showcased very well. They all had the 25,000 people in the arena beggiong for more at the end. The concert had some of his new stuff but alot of his old stuff including numbers from The Acropolis. Those were definately the crowd favorites.

I saw him on the current tour in California, and just like on his last tour, it was awesome! he puts together a group of some of the most talented musicians in the world, and then spotlights each of them during the course of the night.

Last tour, it was the female violinist (Karen ??) that was the hands-down awe-inspiring performer. This time, although he had fantastic horn soloists and some amazing strings, I'd have to give it to the aboriginal gentleman on the native Australian digiridoo. That guy made some of the most incredible sounds with that thing!

Yanni is a must see, not so much for Yanni as for the troupe he brings along.

Ah yes, a talent in the upper eschalon along with John Tesh, Celine Dion, and Michael Bolton. Giants, each one.

Nightmare TV viewing scenario: A Yanni concert that airs the same time as the world Rhythmic Gymnastics competition.

...but I kid. I kid.

To each his own :-D :-D

Most people don't have a clue who they're looking at when looking into a mirror.

I too, trash-mouthed Yanni for years. I think listening to a few tracks from the concert on the Acropolis will change a few minds. Some of his solo, electronic love-song stuff IS crap, but much more is down-right extraodinary. Most of my photos are also, crap. I only hope to get a few extraordinary ones in my lifetime.

You do know that Yanni isn't a singer, right? And that his concerts are instrumental?

You do know that Yanni isn't a singer, right? And that his concerts are instrumental?Neither is John Tesh. But you can still find their albums in the same rack.
