I am purchasing my first 20D, my first Digital SLR today and need to know what is the best brand of Compact Flash to use. I'm looking to purchase at least a 1G if not a 2G. I read somewhere on this list that 20D's have an issue w/ Lexmark CF's?? Is this still true? AND - what do you pro's suggest for a newbie!!!

Hope I can help kpoole and welcome to the forum.
Check out http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007 it should tell you more than you want to know about CF cards and how they function is specific cameras.
I use SanDisk Ultra II mostly in the 1GB configuration.

Not lexmark, they make printers. Its Lexar 80X w/ WA. I agree w/ the above rec for Sandisk ULTRA II, it just the way to go.

Sandisk Ultra's II has never gave me a problem. I've had some older Lexars go bad.

Sandisk Ultra II . . . if you can afford it, get the 2G. it gives u roughly 200 RAW Photos

Sandisk ultra II 1GB is my vote.
As has been said;if you will shoot nothing but RAW;get the 2 GB card.
If buying on Ebay;it is sometimes cheaper to buy two 1GB cards verus buying one 2 GB.
Do your home work.
Good Luck!!!

I have a Sandisk 1G ultra II and a 512 (I don't remember if it's the ultra or the extreme) and I haven't had a problem with either of them.

In fact I'll head to the store in a few hours to pick up another 1G!

Normally Kingston's Elite Pro has better price (after rebate) than other major brands for the same speed. I have three Elite Pro (purchased separately) and have no problem at all.

I'm using the Sandisk Ultra II 1GB and Extreme III 1GB with the 20D. Both work great.

Certain Lexar Pro 80x cards need a firmware upgrade to avoid a problem with losing pictures. If you buy one without the updated firmware, you will have to send it in for the upgrade.

I have one lexar extreme and two sandisk II's 1G and one sandisk 512 they all work fine, definitely a noticeable differeence in speed between the three types.

Go for the fastest you can afford.

I use 2 1gb Sandisk Ultra II and 2 1gb Kingston Elite Pro. All have been fast and reliable. I wouldn't hesitate using either of these brands.

I ordered 2 - 4 gb Elite Pro's when I ordered my 20D. I ordered from Dell (Dell sale price, Dell coupon, and Kingston rebate). Very good price! I believe the rebate is now over though.

Elite pro's 1gb cards are listed as 50X (also ordered 2 of these) and the Elite pro's 4gb cards are listed as 45X.

I have a few 1GB Sandisk Ultra II and a number of 512MB Sandisk Ultra II. I also have a 2GB microdrive but I find myself using the Sandisks. Never had a problem with the microdrive, I just don't use it much.

Wow.. it's a clean sweep for Sandisk!
With Kingston coming in a distant third.. and Lexar not even on the board!

Sandisks Ultra seem to consitantly perform better in Canon Cameras.

I think the few problems with the Lexar cards and Canon cameras scared a lot of people towards Sandisk. On the Nikon boards I have not seen a lot of problems with the Lexar cards. Not being a pro or needing the higher speeds. I am very comfortable with the slightly lower priced Kingston's.

Costco has coupon sales on the Sandisk Ultra II 1 GB for $75 often. I went and bought them 3 times:lol:

Okay - I'll stick my neck out ;) I like the Lexar 80x Pro cards. If you buy now from a reputable dealer you're unlikely to get one of the batch which had a fairly rare fault. The Lexar cards do overall have a very good name and do well in the tests.

I have two Lexar 80x, 2 Transcend 45x and 1 Transcend 80x

I buy whatever is best GB per £$ (and I would buy Lexar again if it happened to be them)

I don't think about whether or not my cards will be fast enough for my next camera because the cards will be cheaper and faster when I do get a new camera :D
