This girl is by far my favorite model. I would tell you half of the crap she says while we're messing around on our shoots, but I'd rather NOT get kicked off of this Forum... I like it here haha.

Enjoy!

WOW!
She's a cracker looking model and looks like she'd be a hoot to work with.
You can tell that she'd be a bundle of fun, she's got that "evil" glint in her eye.
Really like the whole set but the bottom rh corner of #2 and #6 are my faves.

Love the series and a beautiful model as well. She looks like she would be fun to shoot; looks like a ball of personality

Yeah she's definately got the evil/playful glint and her personality really comes accross in the shots. Awesome set, I particularly like #7 too.

Yeah, I'd also be interested to know a few details about the lighting setups used if possible.

Stan these are excellent shots! And from a fellow Nebraska man...great job! What lens, light setup did you use? Where did you shoot these?

Howdy guys thank you so much for the comments!

The lighting was simple, it was either one or two speedlights boomed above or held beside cortney throw a 43" shoot thru umbrella, triggered via an ST-E2, which if you look at my flickr you'll see a ridiculously fast shutterspoeed. :P

oh and i shot these in Lincoln! The alley behind brewskys and the others were in pioneers park :P

nice series, good light and cute model. The compo is messed up some, and it looks like that while rocking that 135L and the lighting you forgot a little bit about the composition and the story telling.
These remind me of after the shoot shots, when the lights are still there but everyone is just goofing around. Take it not as a harsh critique, but rather as a personal opinion.

Thank you guys... I saw number 7 on my camera and I got pumped as heck right when i took it, and there was an employee out there smoking in the alley, just out of the frame... we showed it to her and she yelled 'F*** yeah! You look hot, girl!' :D

No doubt, Cortney is a dynamic model and you've caught some of her energy with these pix. Models like this are so much easier to shoot than those who just sit there and say, "What do you want me to do?"

That said, her eyes seem too dark in most of the shots. That may be due to the fact that they're dark/her makeup is dark/not enough light getting to them. Are you controlling exposure manually? Or relying on ETTL? If the latter, that would expain the inconsistency, e.g., the top two in #2.

Also, how are you controlling WB? I thought my monitor was just different than yours but there's a distinct variance between the two sets -- blue top/black top. Skin tone in the blue tops have a kind of odd pink cast whereas the black tops seem more natural. #6 looks closest to 'on'. If you're relying on AWB or even presets, I'd suggest using custom WB, especially when mixing flash with ambient light. For portraits, a tool that provides a slightly warm balance usually works best.

BTW, I normally wouldn't think about this, but since I mentioned eyes . . . she might be a good candidate for colored contact lenses. If she's going to keep her hair that light, blue or green eyes would work. They are most dramatic for people with dark eyes; I'm betting Cortney might be comfortable with being dramatic! ;)

^^

She's got super dark eyes to start off with.
And yes, I'm controlling the white balance, haha. I'm well aware of how I'm processing, and #2 is in no way shape or form supposed to look bomb, half of the photos were way underexposed and bumped just because they were quick shots with no real preparation in general. I edit in raw as well so the color temp was definitely controlled after the fact, because to be honest, i was cold as heck

But thanks for the input 8)

ive looked at your photos.. id really love some tips on the post processing.. the nice warm colors but good contrast and not overdone. very pro stuff!
can you give some tips? or post some workflow?

Yes sir!

I'll tell all of POTN that cares to see:

Lightroom
-Shoot in RAW
-Kill ALL blacks
-Contrast it up a lil bit
-Desaturate in between 15-35%
-Mess with warmth and tint
-In the split-toning section, push the bar in the middle all the way to the right (highlites) and mess around with shadow saturation

maybe a some more stuff, but i think i got it all.

In my opinion, those dark eyes are the biggest hit of the photos. It's nice to see something that's not "industry standard" with shots like this. She's great, your work is great and show us more of her!

When I edit most of my photos, stylistically, personally by preference, i don't like TRUE blacks. If you edit in raw you can turn the black slider thingy all the way to 0 and from my understanding all true blacks will be diminished, i could be wrong, but it works for me :D
