View Full Version : AC Power for 20D?

The Canon website does not seem to list a battery eliminator for the 20D. I'd like to shoot timelapse for three days and would like to have the camera on AC power to do this. Is there such a beast? Does the ACK E2 work for the 20D?

Yes, the ACK E2 is the battery eliminator for the 20D (and the 10D and the Rebel) and runs $64.95 at B&H.

Wouldn't the battery last long enough? I can't imagine one running out before you fill the card, but I don't know exactly how you are doing your project.

Tethered to a laptop for three days ... just seems a little long for such a tiny battery. What if the camera is in 'awake' (shutter half depressed) mode for those three days?

Dwight,
As far as I know, and I have the DC coupler for the 20D, is that you need the CA-PS400 and the DR-400. The DR-400 plugs into the CA-PS400, which is a dual battery charger with a connection for the DR-400. This ACK E2 is for the Rebel, which uses different batteries then the BP-511's that the 20D uses. And yes, I would run it on DC power for such a long shot. Check ebay, that is where I got mine, saved about $50 over the camera shops for the same new gear.

Mohawk is correct. You can utilize the CA-PS400 w/DR-400 cable. I own it and it works fine as an AC replacement for the 20D battery(ies).

I have the ACK E2 that I use with my 20D, it works great. I bought it because on page 154 of the 20D manual it lists the ACK E2 as an AC Power Adapter Kit.

I thank you all ... I now neither feel so stupid nor so ignorant as I did when I asked this question. :-)

Really! I bet it's allot cheaper then my set-up? I used the accessories brochure as a reference, and it mentioned nothing about the ACK E2. It really works?

It's listed as an accessory for the 20D at the B&H website.
I tried to shoot tethered to my computer and got the error message that it won't work unless the 20D is on AC power, so I'm not sure if other battery-replacement equipment would work. I would be interested to hear if they do.

Suggest you also get an UPS with line conditioner and plug the camera & timer into the UPS.
During summer month, we often get brief power interruptions or brownouts. A split second interruption may be enough to reset the timer's program.
