this little robin redbreast flew right over me and sat on the window sill

then found it's own way out... through here , through the hall, through the open kitchen door and through another door
right into the garden

http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

the sunlight was very bright coming in through the window when she landed
so it was a bit difficult trying to see the bird properly and get a shot without frightening it too much

this is an Irish robin
they are slightly different to the robins in the states
more plump and smaller

the robin redbreast is my favourite small bird

Sounds like it knew it's way around your house? Good job you had your camera ready. ;)

I love them too Nick ,thanks

(you took the best ever shot of a robin)

I had no window open behind me
it came in through the door, whizzed over my head and left the same way.
I was hoping it would stay long enough for a photo as I never bother them out in the garden.
it perched on the sill
I moved ever so slow
as my back was to the window I had to turn around so slowly and get the camera out of the bag across the room
trying to stay as quiet as possible

Bruce thanks
I had not got the camera ready
I was sitting at the computer, the open door to my right
the window behind me,
closed .
(as I could get a cough)http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
in a draught from the main room in the front of the house
( those windows are open)

now you know the lay out of the house you will be familiar with it
if you ever call

or break in

it happened before.
the little bird flew in and out of the kitchen
I never even tried to get a shot those times as the action is all over very quickly

I may be repeating myself here >

this time I turned and got up very slowly
and moving even slower across the room
all the trappings on a camera bag seem enormous when trying to catch something moving like it or hopping from one perch to another..in a shot

http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
it even landed on the computer for a second
but no way could I do anything
just watch.
lovelyhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

then it went to the window sill
and my prayers were whispering 'please stay there '
'stay there just for a second longer'

the bright sunlight was beaming in

I see the shadow of the bird makes it look as though the sun is coming from the other direction but it's not
it's outside that window beaming in
hard to catch in a proper picture
the bird's own shadow is reflected back, the way the light is falling
it's an unusual direction for a shadow

thanks Bruce

That's alright Marie, I know you were only on the computer for a brief moment. ;)

Talk about a missed photo op. Now if you had the camera set up for a self portrait at that moment, you could have captured TWO Birds on the computer.

Beautiful shot Marie, I love that it came to visit you and you were able to take it's photo. One should always try to take a photo of a house guest.   Course we all hope that our guests are a little neater, and don't leave things behind.

Yeah, but this is a neat house guest compared to some. Awesome shot, very impressive.

What a great shot, Marie!
I think it left something behind:lol:Our American robins are generous that way, too:

BTW, it must be nice to have birds make house calls! Only the squirrels here are so bold.

I love the robin and will never get tired of seeing photographs of them. They seem to look at you as though they "understand" you. OK well I know what I'm talking about, I'll get my coat...

Nice shot Marie. It's funny how the little bird travelled around your house. I've had pigeons come in before but they all got disorineted and kept flyin around until they ran out of feathers almost lol :D

http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif those pigeons are big if they leave a gift

I know exactly what you mean Foxbat
they seem to have something
they just stand there watching intently whenever am out working in the garden
so you are not saying anything which could be used to lock you away
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
thank you all
