...this bag?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=280523&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation
I'm interested in finding a bag that will not only handle my gear, but also other items needed for day trips (snacks, water, etc.). The other caveat is that I don't want to spend close to 100$. I'm leaning towards the ever popular Canon bag, but while cruising around B&H I saw these.
Thoughts, opinions?

i havent heard anything about the one you posted about BUT
:D
i just got my canon and i love it. you could easily manage to fit alot of gear and even snacks and stuff inside that backpack.
i would say a body with 3 lenses and alot of room for sandwiches water bottle etc.
depends on how u pack i guess :)

I have the Adorama Slinger bag. It is great. I have the 350XT with three lenses and a flash plus some other little things like filters, cleaning supplies, etc.

When you buy a camera bag, you get what you pay for. Backpacks like the Tamrac Expedition Series, are water resistant, have rain covers, tripod holders/straps, and are well padded. Drop your gear or get caught in the rain once and that cheap backpack wasn't so cheap after all.

I see what you are saying but by looking at the dimensions I would have to go with the is the Expedition 7 which is far more bag than I need. The "5" looks nice but with only a 5" depth my 300D with grip needs more room then that. I don't want to have the pop-up flash being forced down when the bag is closed.
The Delsey is also waterproof, and has a raincover. I do not know exactly how much padding this bag has, but by looking at the Canon bag they seem to be comparable. And that was part of what I was looking for by posting this message.
Besides, I'm trying to upgrade to a 20D (and let the wife keep the 300D) so the 130$ I would be saving helps the cause.

Well, if you change your mind and want a good bag, that has room for enough camera equipment and other stuff, take a look at the Rover backpack from Lowepro ( http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Backpacks/allWeather/Rover_AW_II.aspx ), that's on my shoppinglist. Great if you are going away for a day or two, and want to bring camera and some clothes and other stuff I think.
If you're going on a hike you want a comfortable bag as well, and the cheaper ones are cheap for a reason I'd say...

The Tamrac Expedition 5 is my most used day pack. It holds my 1DM2 a 20D and two lenses, a flash and a rocket blower. It is wide enough for your 300 and grip.

I like the Tamrac Expedition series too but you will never have a bag that is 'too big'. I started out with the Expedition 3.... got too small as I got more stuff. Bought the Expedition 5 (with Scott Berger's recommendation) which I currently have but it will not fit all of my stuff. Not that I have to carry all of my stuff all of the time but you sure do outgrow these bags.

I believe I am the Imelda Marcos of camera bags. You can never have too many. I only carry a bag that is big enough for what I need that day. If you want a bag that will carry just about everything and your dirty clothes, the LowePro Photo Trekker AW II. More then that and you need a pack mule and sherpa. For a large capacity shoulder bag, check out the Tenba 899P. I use it for portable studio shots- 2 bodies and lenses, 3 flashes, batteries, etc.

I have become a Tamrac fan lately. I bought a System 3 model 5603 bag for my S2 (my third Tamrac bag), and it is pretty impressive. It survived a downpour without letting anything inside get wet, and it beats the Canon bag with a stick. I'm sure that there are other quality bags on the market, but Tamrac seems to offer leading edge quality for a budget buck compared to a camera branded case.

I've got the Lowepro Photo Trekker AWII. I've had it for almost 5 years now and the thing is great!!!! Really, I'd recomend spending the extra cash and getting a quality bag. As said earlier, you get what you pay for!
