what effect is this?

Can anyone please tell me what effect was used on this pic to change the coloring of it? and do u think it was applied to entire photo or only certain parts?

The first looks like a boost of orange and the other is a desaturated I think...

The first one is natural- no effect. it was Halloween, they were wearing orange. thanks

i dont think its JUST desaturation..... like they added pink or something also- how would I do that in Photoshop elements 7?

Hard to tell exactly what was done, as there is always more than one way to do things. Just playing around with the image, you should be able to come up with something close. Here is my guess:

Added a hue & sat adjustment, played with the sliders until the orange looked more light pink, may have masked out the skin and any other areas.

Made a copy of the background, moved it above the hue & sat adjustment layer, changed it to black and white, adjusted the opacity of this layer until a hint of the orignal background and hue & sat layers show through to your liking.

I don't know photoshop elements 7, so dont know if these steps are possible in it.
