Strong portraiture. I really like those.
You've a good touch on the photojournalism approach, as well.
It seems the ceremony and reception both offered little in the way of available light. (noticed the dancing pics are a bit blurry) Despite that, you should be very proud of your shots.

Nice work! I'm not a wedding photographer, but think these are lovely. Not sure I love the title of your thread, though, lol. ;)

Great work, good to see someone learn their craft, before going out and assisting.
my wife and i have sat down, been hyper critical of these, and we both agree that 90% of them are excellent, the last 10% are things we personally dont like, and there is nothing actually wrong with the images.
Brilliant work, and i hope to see more, you seem to be a natural at this.

For shot #3, did you use any lighting or just a reflector?
Really nice shots, Good Job!!!!

thanks all for the very kind feedback!
to answer a few questions: YES, i now have the bug! i had a GREAT time shooting these. the primary is a super cool guy who is very very laid back so that made it easy. i have two more weddings as a second now with photographers that i REALLY respect.
as for the lenses used, it was mainly the 35L and 85L. i tried to shoot opposite of what the primary was shooting to give some different perspectives.
the dancing photos were meant to have a bit of motion blur to them...i dropped my shutter down to 1/8th for that raw feel of the moment. i only did this for the last 8 shots or so for the dance.
again, i appreciate the feedback! thanks for commenting!

Wow, well the shot looks great even with the harsh sun behind the group. Did you meter off the guys faces?
By the way, I love your work and have been a BIG BIG fan of you and Daniel's blog (thefamilyphotojournalist). You both really inspired me to experiment with black & white's.
Keep up the great work!

I can see you've been inpsired by pat's style :p He takes some awesome photos
I like yours a lot. I'd love to be in a position of a 2nd shooter, my first and only wedding was on my own... so I had to rush to get the important photos before being creative. Not that I'm any good anyway :(

Is there a way to make the guy look taller using perspective?
Luckily, I was born a tall man, but I could imagine that the smaller guys out there would like pictures not showing his wife towering over him.

Very, very nice job! You did an absolutely fantastic job for your first wedding as as second shooter. Keep providing results like that and the pros will keep you glued to their side. You'll have an opportunity to learn from some of the best...

thanks again all!
as for finding a photographer, i guess i have been lucky. i'm a member of another forum. i've become friendly with several members and talk outside of the forum. pat needed someone and i was there. from there, i've been contacted by a couple different guys.

I'm not a wedding photographer, or even a pro, but here is my c&c.
I'm a real stickler with white balance issues. The shots in the wedding hall seem to have been shot with strobes, due to poor available lighting. However, I would have thrown a tungsten gel on the strobes to match the color of the available light. That way, you wouldn't have the bride and groom with the correct color cast, and the rest of the room with a bright yellow/orange hue.
When I first walk into a room that I'm going to shoot in, I assess the available light in terms of quantity, direction and color. I'll take a few ambient shots, and then balance it with strobes if necessary, at the locations I need them if I'm including ambient into the exposure. Last, I will gel my strobes if there is enough ambient left in the exposure so everything has a consistent and natural color. Unless of course I'm trying to warm or cool the ambient purposefully and creatively.
Nice photos otherwise.

many thanks all! i did not shoot specific moments of the wedding so there are some definite 'holes' in my set to make it less than complete.
good advice on the gels...thats something i never played with before but will have to check it out in the future!

Nice work for your first time!
3. the first group shot you should have use a greater depth of field to get everyone in foucs and it looks like thats what you are trying to capture from the crop, if not I would change the crop so that the Groom is the main focal point (basically as you have both with the other shots in #3
