camera will not recognize images on card

This has occured several times. The camera will not recognize the images that I have just taken and says there are no images on the card. Yet, I can take the card to the grocery story and read it on there machine and all the images are there! What is going on? It would work out ok, but the machine at the store does not read movie clips and I can not get to them. Also I have had everything erased a few times from the card. Can someone help me out?

Has your card been written, erased, or formatted by some other device than the camera? You may need to use some 3rd party software (the device at the store, or image recovery software on your PC -- search this forum for some names) to retrieve the images currently on your card. Then use the camera to erase and re-format the card. That should fix it if it's a card-formatting problem.
