A friend of mine is backpacking in Europe soon, and he plans on hitchhiking most of the time. Instead of a cell phone, hes going to make a website with blog about his visits. So he asked me to get a picture of him for the site.

Im not sure about the colours, they seem off. If anybody has some time and wants to help or make a suggestion, feel free.

Hi Sean, great shot and I think you're right, the colours are off....too much yellow I reckon'. I did a quick adjust in PS- auto contrast and auto colour.
Roger.

Hmm.. I tried to get a more summer look out of the picture, I think the reason it was a littel yellow/orange is because of the warming filter. I should rephrase my sentence, maybe "The sky colour and such are off"

Thanks Roger for the edit!

Nice image,

but I think you put too much USM on the tramper, and you have a sharp line to the background.

That makes him stand out in a way that looks a bit unnatural for me - looks like a paper guy put up in front of the scenery.
But that might just be my personal opinion.

Other than that, I really like the image.

Best regards,
Andy

I like the yellow one better one, too. My son (a very yellow-headed kid) will be traveling around Europe starting in about three weeks, as well. I like that it looks almost surreal. My son is going to blog his trip, too. He has a goofy photo on there I did a while back. I might need to do one similar to this for him. Thanks for the idea.

For a second I had to look at your profile to see if this was your son I was shooting haha. Sounds like they think too much alike.

Thanks for all the comments people.:)

That picture is hot hot hot. Is he by change a musician? I almost expect to see a guitar on his back.

What a fantastic shot.

Yeah, I like the yellow one better too: It's a good photo.

Good luck to him, I stopped picking up hitch hickers some time ago. Here in the States, you just can't trust people. Gone are those days :(

I actually like the color in the first one best, it adds warmth. But, I'm no color expert.
It doesn't look off to me, it just looks like it was shot close to sunrise or sunset, when the colors are warm and the sky has a pinkish hue. Very nice. Does he like it?

I really like this composition and he is in sharp focus, very crisp. The softness of the background I find a bit troubling. Perhaps it falls off too fast?

Sky is definitely in need of some color work. Perhaps plug in some nice blue sky with clouds?

Nice job though.

Hey Sean.. up a bit late / early for Kingston, eh??
Actually.. I like the first shot almost the way it is. There are times when the sky looks like that in Ontario..
(only thing I would change is crop at the wire on top.)

having said that.. I played with putting a blue sky in the background, just for grins and giggles.
doesn't look too bad.
find a pic with a nice sky, make a file with transparent background, paste the sky pic first, then paste this pic on top, select the sky, cut, and the blue sky shines thru.
have to make sure your selection is feathered a bit, so the edge of the trees and stuff don't have a white line.
Practice is all it takes... well, with a bit of patience, and a hint or two. ;)

That is funny about the guitar. My son plays, but I don't think he is planning to take on to Europe. He would like to take his bike, but way too pricey.
I'll see about getting one of him this weekend and post so you can see my yellow-headed kid.

I know there are several excellent threads in the Post Processing forums here. Check them out. One even adresses this very issue, sky replacement.

Sorry - I just went out and found the link for you. Should have posted it origianlly.

I hope you don't mind my imput. I think this is such a cool shot and the suggestion of blue sky and clouds was great. Also adjusted color and saturation, sharpened a bit more and a few other adjustments. Let me know what you think.

Nicely done!! I think we've got a winner here!! ;)
(getting rid of the posts was cool too... I didn't try that, too much work. just did the sky thing... but your sky was better than the one I had...)

don't sweat being new at something.... because I considered myself a proficient photographer, and also thought that I could handle myself with the digital stuff, too. Since that point, I have learned quite a bit more than I thought I knew, doing things right with the camera, and doing lots of cool stuff with PhotoShop after you've made a cool shot, and turning it into a really cool picture!!

btw. who said "and you just started photography"??
