Changed the word "Mostly" to "Mainly"

Giving a speech tomorrow, adding a poll to add credibility to my audience/topic relationship that most people use DSLR's as a hobby.

Can't be both because of the word mostly. However if you do shoot professional regularly, I recommend voting professional regardless.

Like anyone would ever want to pay for one of my pictures. Heck, I don't even like most of them, they look like bad vacation snapshots.

+1 And I think there should be more options than "mostly" this and that. It's 100% hobby for me.

Yeah, you guys are right...the word "mostly" can be confusing.

Well, it's a hobby only because I don't earn enough $,$$$,$$$ to live off of yet. ;)

I'll post a few photos on various forums to help tell a story or such, but other than that, if I don't think I have a chance at selling a shot, I probably won't take it. "Oh, that would be a neat shot ... yeah, but what am I going to do with it? Nah."

I would have voted 'only for hobby' had that been an option.

I have two setups, One is for work only and I never shoot recreationally with it, the other is for fun only, I don't bring it to work. I need a both category.

Honest. Unless it's super special for some reason. I've got 1,000's of pix stored that I'll never look at again already! ;)

Oh, I do love taking pictures ... I just bought a 1D MK II N! But so I can get better shots to sell. So, although I'm not a professional making a living at it, does that force me into the hobby category ?

That's why people in the "past" made photo albums. And all the "rest" of their photos are never anywhere to be found - they've been thrown away!

I'm not sure that creating an informal poll and letting it run for one day is really a good sampling.... ;)

tough to answer because of the mostly. I shoot professionally, or at least I get paid to shoot. But that's a VERY low % of my total shots. Why? Because I need a nice camera for my clients, it means I use it more personally. So I have a daily PAD project and shoot landscapes on the side (which I'd like to sell but haven't yet) which are more than half my time and half my shots. But I could easily box the camera up when not shooting for money and be 100% pro, but why?

so I voted mostly for money.

Hobby, now. I shot with a student paper last year during which time I earned 6 credits of independent studies which used up most of my clicks, but with whom I am no longer affiliated.

Well, did you give the speech:)?

I think that in recent years, more and more hobbyists have moved to DSLRs, and probably most DSLR users these days are hobbyists, so in that sense you are likely correct, but that's a bit misleading. I think it's save to say that the vast majority of pros use either a film SLR, a DSLR or an MF/LF film or digital body, whereas the vast majority of hobby/for fun shooters probably still use digital P&S cameras. You have to keep things in perspective!
