The WCHA (and all conferences for that matter) conference playoff tournament just ended and NCAA Quarterfinals are this coming weekend...

I had a few more problems on Saturday than Sunday with the cycling of lights.. more blue tint in the first few than any of Sunday's game (still have 600+ to go through from the other semi-final Saturday but that will happen later since that wasn't our Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) Bulldogs so not a huge priority :D

I think I had a much better custom WB for Sunday's championship game

I shoot manual for all sports... I shot at ISO 2500 and had to bring the camera down to 1/500 and shoot a shot fluorescent to get it to allow a "correct" custom WB.. and it turned out pretty good I guess... I would have shared some of the individual shots I took but I've got so many that I decided to just share some scrums in front of the net instead.

I think you nailed the color and exposure. I do like the last shot of the goalie in final approach, landing gear down.

And - got to love a hockey player with "DODGE" on the back of the sweater ;)

Wow, the ice looks really yellowed in the last set of photos, but the jerseys look white! Great shots.

EDIT: Just wondering what lens and shooting position you are using? Looks to be from a fairly high vantage point. Probably a pretty long lens. 200mm on a crop, at least.

Actually it's the sigma 70-200 and yes I was sort of high up but not *that* bad...

They're from the WCHA Women's Championship at Ridder this weekend.. being Minneapolis I'm sure you've shot Ridder before... I couldn't shoot through the glass and obstruct and I didn't attempt to get 'full access' and shoot from the suicide box, just applied to shoot and post (blog.)

Dodge (Gina Dodge) is the latest 'hometown hero' from Duluth to make the D1 women's college hockey team

I hear they grow some pretty good hockey players in the Arrowhead. Our Midget coach is from Grand Marais.

Grand Marais is nearly 3+1/2 hours drive from here ;)

Nice series...... When I shoot higher, sometimes you can get your wb a little closer if you wb off the ice. Just an FYI. Looking forward to the Men's Frozen Four in a couple weeks!!

I always WB off the ice.. the only dirty ice I had was after warmups and that's not really all that snowed up but I took what I could get. If the women's team gets to the Frozen Four .. in Ridder Arena again this year I'm going to do a custom WB from the ice.. from right through the glass and see how that looks in the LCD anyway.

The Duluth Arena (aka DECC Arena) gives a little better custom WB but the lights from the 60's cycle so bad that I was pretty happy with what I got in Minneapolis. Here's a high school shot from Section semi-finals in Duluth 2 weeks ago.
