I am new to this club. I ordered my 1st D-SLR & accessories; UPS says it’ll all be here tomorrow! EOS 20-D body with the 18-55 (non-USM) kit lens
70-200mm f/4L tele-zoom (with a filter)
The Battery Grip
Hitachi 2 GB Micro-drive CF card
Camera back-pack that’ll hold my 12” iBook
Two (2) generic batteries
and a Filter for my 50mm f/1.8 mk I
I almost ordered the body only for $999.99 ‘till I called and found out this “less-than-reputable-dealer” takes ALL the factory supplied accessories out of the box (battery, charger, eye cup, strap, etc) making it UNUSABLE ‘till you order all that stuff from ‘em for a rip off price. I am so glad I called and didn’t fall for their scam! Whew! That was a close one. I just hope I did allright for myself.
I’ve been lurking on this forum a while and now that I “gotz mines” I decided to finally post.
This is my first D-SLR; I’ve been using my film Elan 7e w/ EF 50mm f/1.8 mk I lens up until now. I’ve wanted a D-SLR ever since the 10D first came out, but It took a really long time for me to come up with the money (I sold my 1976 Sportster for this).
I have heard a lot of mixed feelings about that kit lens, and I figured, “What the heck, it’ll cover the wide angles.” I guess I just need to keep it at f/8 or smaller to get descent results, which is okay by me, since I have the prime 50 for the larger aperature.
I hope I made a wise choice in my “lens kit” as it covers the focal lengths I need. It was between the 17-40 f/4L and the 70-200 f/4L and since the kit lens was so darn cheap, I went with the better tele-zoom. I also plan to shoot more “zoomy” shots anyhow.
Well, thanks for listening to my ramblings and I will post pics when it’s time and I look forward to being a part of this awesome forum!
