View Full Version : Strange Problem With PS CS2 and Color Proof

After installing PS CS2 on my new computer with a new monitor I’ve got a strange problem: all the images (regardless of what color space they are saved in) openend in PS CS2 look too bright and lack contrast. I am even tempted to clip some blacks using levels, despite the histogram looks perfect. The problem disappears only if I select Proof/Monitor RGB. All the other settings (e.g. Proof & CMYK or disabling Proof) give me the same over brighten under contrasting image on the PS screen. Once I save the image, it looks fine if opened by Paint, Zoom Browser or Internet Explorer. The old images (which I edited and printed a long time ago) also look bad, when I open them with the PS CS2 with proof other than Monitor RGB.

The same problem applies to Adobe RAW converter. All images, which look fine in Zoom Browser look “funny” when opened in PS RAW converter. If I defeat the temptation to adjust brightness and contrast and just convert them to JPEG and then open them in Zoom Browser, they look normal.

I don’t have a hardware to calibrate my monitor. On my Windows Color Management settings I use the profile, which was supplied by the monitor’s manufacture. I also tried to create my own profile by running Adobe Profile utility from the Control Panel. I still have the same problem – all proofs look misleadingly bright and lack contrast unless I switch Proof to Monitor RGB.

I tried my best to make PS CS2 color space settings exactly as they are on my old PS CS1 installation. May be I missed something.

BTW, the same monitor with the same profile did not cause such a problem on my old computer with PS CS1.
