Well I ordered it last week and UPS finally brought it today! I had a dream about it yesterday and I'm literally jumping around taking pictures of everything I can. I'm considering a 50mm F1.4 but all the naysayers are throwing me off.

Anyways, just glad to be on this board! I hope to be here for years to come.

You're my hero .. someone with the balls to buy a 300D despite it no longer being this years latest and greatest. A truly great camera. Spend money on lenses until you really know the 300D is holding you back. The 50mm f1.4 is a good lens. Why the problem? Are you sure you'd rather not get a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 zoom ... a bit more flexible if you only have one decent lens.

Oh, and welcome ... :D

You''re gonna have a fun time. It's a great camera. I'd say atleast 90% of the 350d and 20d users could get all they need from the 300d perfectly fine but they all just buy whatevers the new hot item at the time. The camera is awesome. :)

300D will go down in history as one of the most important camreas ever made.........how many SLR's can say that? You bought a great tool, that has the capability to create GREAT photos with your help. Welcome to the forum and its a great place to ask questions as they come up. After reading the manual of course ..... :-)

Congrats and welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll have a blast with the camera. Post some images alright.

You made a great choice! I got mine about two months ago and I am just loving it. Wish I had paid your price, though!

Have fun with it, and post some of the great pictures I know you're gonna take! :D

Congrats! And poo poo the naysayers, the Canon 50mm f1.4 is a great lens! My copy is incredibly sharp, and I only had to buy it once, imagine that! It is great around the house when you do not want to use a flash, like a baby sleeping in the crib. And makes for an excellent portrait lens on your 300D, with a nice bokeh.

Congrats.............I have the 300D and it is a really nice camera. Buy a couple of nice lenses and you will be happy with the 300D. $400.00 is a great price.

It's just my luck that I have a statistics test today and the final tomorrow. :evil:I'll be sure to post pics as soon as the opportunity avails! Thanks for the welcome everyone. This forum seems like one of the friendliest of all the ones I've been to.

Just got mine about 2 months ago. Thought I did good getting it for $700 but your my hero. Is it your first SLR? I've had numerous SLR's but it's my first Digital one and I'll never go back. Personally I like the 300 better than the 350, the 350 is just to small.

Wow where did you get it for $400 brand new? !
I'd jump on that instead of waiting for enough $$$
for the XT if I could get a 300D for that kinda price.

I literally jumped on this deal when I found it. I bought it off a person on another forum that I frequent. I responded 1 minute after he posted the thread. :o

I'm 17 and I'm just getting serious about photography. I guess I got my mom's genetics. I've always played around with my friends old SD100 and I got a SD300 a few months ago for $280. I guess I'm just gifted at stealing cameras. I plan to get pretty serious with this camera and get a few quality lenses. I'll upgrade in the distant future, but for now I think I'm golden even for an "outdated" camera.

The naysayers I'm talking about are the one's that argue the F/1.4 is a rip compared to the cheaper F1/8.

Wow I wish I had the luck to have the cash AND be at the right place
at the right time to score a good deal like that! I'm also 17 (as of 1hr ago [Weds. in my time zone])
and only get a small check from a part time job, so that $400 deal would've been
great for me to. Hope you get alot of good use out of it :D

Happy Birthday to you!

A year ago I purchased a brand new iPod with a black hard case for $250 and I recently sold it for $295. I then purchased a PSP to replace it and now I'm going to sell the PSP to pay for this camera. I'll have to add another $100, but I think that's a small price to pay for something that's far better then a PSP and/or an iPod.

Thanks :) Not bad sellin the iPod and PSP to pay for it.
I just got a PS2 and Mp3 player with my first check and
now I am really kicking myself- grand total slightly under
half the price of a XT! :~(

I ordered mine through Digital Liquidaters for $404.00 but it is refurbished with a manufacturers warrantee and the 18-55mm EF-S Lens but be warned for the verification phone call with the pressure sales pitch to upgrade everything.

Re: 50 f/1.4: what naysayers? They're crazy to badmouth that lens.

Nobody badmouths the 50 f/1.4, except people with the 50 f/1.8 MkI or MkII... I've owned them all. The 50 1.4 is king of all (USM, plus extra stop). ...Except of course the old 50 L 1.0...

Well ... don't be too sure of that yet. You'll find the screen on the 300D is a bit small for playing games on. Also, tho' I have found a socket to plug in my headphones I can't get any sound out of it  The camera facility works quite well but trying to make phone calls on this thing is a nightmare!!!!! Just don't seem to get any reception.

 To be honest, I didn't really use my PSP to its full potential. I used it more for movies then for games. :o I hated my iPod (don't ask) so I'm glad it's gone, but I'll be getting another music player soon. Photography is the thing I'm passionate about and I'd like to get serious from the other side of the camera.

Tomorrow, I'm going to go hunting with my camera. Finally a chance to play with it!
