Hi everyone,

I am in the process of getting a new concept for my website laid out at the moment, and while the one I have now was done by a friend of mine who is a web designer, he is not available anymore to redo it, so I am looking to create it myself.

I have a pretty specific idea of what and how, and so far www.wix.com looks tempting for me to try.

The sample websites I looked through all seemed great presentation-wise, but can anyone on here provide first-hand feedback?

I have my own domain and my own webspace, are there any problems integrating that? How easy are the tools to keep everything up to date and change content on your site?

What I want most importantly, is no connection to wix (or any other provider) on my site.
I don't want to have a small banner of them on my site, nor their name in my web URL, etc... surely you get what I am saying.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

thanks,
Florian

I like wix. I had prior had a dw site and it was just awfully designed. I have gotten alot of good comments about my new site. You can upgrade from free to premium to where there are no ads. Also you can design the site yourself if you don't like the look of a template. You don't have to use a template.

All you have to do is contract your current domain / hosting company and have them redirect your site. Works great for me !

The only sites I have seen from Wix are the ones people have posted here and they must have been free ones because the amount of Wix advertising on them has been just plain dreadful, more an advert for Wix than the photographers using them!

I tried it and didn't like it, nothing loaded properly, it was very slow and buggy and links would occasionally not load for people.

I use squarespace now but even that is not ideal.

A friend recommended drupal..Since I learned about the popularity of the iphone and the fact that it does not support flash applets..Never considering flash again.

Mine isn't a free wix site. I paid for the ad free website. They work for someone looking to transition to flash. I'm sure there are better companies out there !

I'm in the process of giving my site a complete makeover, which it sorely needs. I played around with a Wix site a little to see what they were about. In the end, like Karl, I found it slow to load, and a bit clunky. Also consider, since it is completely flash based, I believe it does nothing to help you with SEO, or sending business your way.

Google and other search engines still have MAJOR problems with fully flash websites. Its basically like having a blank page out there as far as they are concerned. The best option is if there is a Flash and HTML version. You can show the flash version, but have the html version in the background for the search engines.
