I've been waiting a long time and now Sigma has finally released the 17-50 f2.8 OS lens, which I would have ordered already if it had been released yesterday...until I read some threads directly comparing the differences in images between the sensors. For example 85mm f1.8 on 5D would have thinner DOF then a 50mm f1.8 on APS-C.

However I've also been thinking about the old 5D classic, a full frame sensor would be really nice. And from what I understand, an f4 lens on a FF would have the same look as a f2.8 lens on a crop body. Therefore my 24-60 f2.8 (which is a FF lens) would really shine, and I could use the higher ISOs on the 5D to compensate for the lack of IS. If I were to get a FF I would probably sell my 30mm and get the 50mm f1.4 Sigmalux (or whatever they call it :P)

I want to do more portraits and possibly weddings, and mostly shoot general stuff (not really anything that requires long reach). I would keep my 30D anyways.

What is the typical price for a used 5D these days, And are there are deals on refurbished units right now? Where would my money be better spend?

moving to full frame is always a path that you convince your self will be simpler for you than it is.

you wouldn't have to sell your Sigma 30 or 10-20, but you will. before actually buying the 5D you will convince yourself that you can buy it and keep the 30 and 10-20 to use on your 30d.

in reality, you will get your 5D and barely use the 30d unless you need the reach or higher FPS. you will sell any ef-S lenses and move to an all EF line-up.

I had a similar lineup of lenses when i was crop only. went through this mental convincing. after i bought the 5Dc...

10-20 sold for a 17-40
30 1.4 sold for sigmalux
kept the 70-200 and 85 1.8.

i would go the body route

Yeah Dstanic, I replied to your other post about 5D vs 1D2, and I agree with CosmoKid; once you go FF you'll never look back. I would get the 5D. Used 5D's seem to run in the $1100-1200, though I've seem some run as low as $1000.

I realize I would want the best lenses, which would mean using ones most appropriate for the better camera. I would likely sell the 30mm and get a 50mm Sigma because I'm sure it's a little bit better lens. I may or may not buy a ultra wide because I don't use my 10-20 all that much anyways. When I put my 24-60 on my 35mm camera WOW it is so much wider!

I will keep my eyes open for a 5D, if and when I find one for a good price then I can sell the 20D still likely for more then I paid for it.
