Since I have upgraded to a DSLR my fiance' has taken a liking to my Nikon 8700 and wants to learn more about photography. I have always allowed her to play with my cameras and even told her to play with them as she wants. I think she was afraid to mess them up. Now since I have a better one she is laying claim to the 8700. And is showing interest in wanting to learn more.
The problem is she has / had deslexia (sp) so she does not like reading that much. Is there anything that you can suggest? Start from the basics would be good for a start. A video may be good as well, but I have no clue if anything is available.

A very basic book that I picked up is from the "teach yourself" series. The title is simply "Photography" since it is part of the series, the author is Lee Frost: link for Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0071435050/qid=1120739053/sr=8-7/ref=pd_bbs_ur_7/102-0746373-5687323?v=glance&s=books&n=507846).
It contains 23 chapters and won't give her any depth, but it is very easy reading and will get her sorted on several concepts. The latter chapters are sorted into kinds of photography, so she can skip any chapters she isn't interested in.
There is also some basic stuff she can read here: http://photoinf.com/

Try the Virtual Camera (http://www.camerasinteractive.com/index.php#), too. It should work well with the book. (Don't forget your local Library, either! Mine has videos. ;-)

Try this Canon official site. (http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/enjoydslr/index.html) It doesn't work at the moment because Canon is fixing a mismatched images, but hopefully it will be up soon.
