Now I'm realy convinced I'll enjoy this "artsy " phase you getting into.
Please keep sharing in this line, being it IR or not.
Since Laz left I don't remember to have seen such quality aand quantity in this line of images.
I realy like your style in this "non nature" (or non-birdy) photography.
I like them all but the "pilgrim" is fantastic. Great observation and very well grasped IMO.
PS- BTW, the title is just perfect.
(Bono is screaming in my head while seeing the photos) :D:rolleyes:

These are very cool....almost surreal looking. My favorite is the first one..almost has a cartoon quality to it. So awesome what you can do to a photo these days!:D

Good lord... that's really trippy. Reminds me of something out of Through the Looking Glass.
Very nice work!

Between these & Mt. Olympus, you have forced me to order the Hoya R72 IR filter :D Keep up the good shots.

Nice photos.
That filter(Hoya R72) is so dark. How did you get shutter speeds fast enough to stop the pedestrian's movement or hand holding?
CyberDyneSystems
8th of July 2005 (Fri), 13:28
The IR high pass filter in front of the CMOS sensor has been removed.. allowing all the IR info to get in.. shutter speeds are nearly what they would be with a "normal" digital.

I think I saw something about it a while ago(photonet?) but didn't realise it enable "normal" exposure times. I guess if I can stumble on a used body I'll have to have it retrofitted: It looks well worth it. Colors are great!

is there a thread somewhere that you explain how to do this? very nice stuff.

I think an IR Tutorial for these forums is in order.. we'll have to work on one.. ;)
But you should check out
www.kleptography.com
These is also a "sticky thread" in the G Series forums..
Don Ellis' site will not only show some of the best examples of Digital IR,. he has posted his post workflow and instructions on how to convert a G1.
Even if you have no intentions of doing this yourself.. it is a great read to understand the idea behind it.

Your IR pictures keep getting better and better. This is really stunning work! The first one is my favorite. The drama of the sky and the empty streets make it feel positively post apocalyptic.

Infra Red.
Very nice CDS. :)
I'm almost wanting a 2nd body just for this. A 20Da, is way too expensive, for using it only part of the time. However astrophotography could also come in handy without the IR filter.

Ha.. I actually stopped being a U2 "fan" waaaaaay back when WAR (the only U2 album I own .. on Vinyl!!) ...was still only being played on College stations
I saw them live at a free concert that the Brown U. Student Union had put together... must have been .. what '83-ish... ? .. just goes to show.. you know never know who's going to get huge ;)

It's the colors that are left behind after the InfraRed filter has done it's work.. I do "tweek" them in PS.. but the color is there allready.

My favorite is the second one -- the man even has the right foot forward for proper artistic balance. :)
Only comment is the one I made in another three -- a slight bit more sharpening will tighten up the leaves and the vertical lines on the building and the man, setting your infrared photos apart from the blurred images most infrared photographers have to endure, especially with wind-blown foliage.
Cheers,
Don

I love the last one! So pretty!
So there's no chance in hell that my 350D can take any pictures like these if I buy the R72 filter? I have to have a special camera with it's IR pass filter thingy majigy removed?

The only thing would change would be shutter times.. trees moving would make them "softer" and moving subjects like people would be pretty much out of the question.
But for static shots ... like most of these.. a tripid would get you similar results ;)
