I know the highlights are blown but the mom likes it. It was taken with a p&s, I was using it as photoshop practice. Which pp do you prefer?

I went for the non-sun flare one because I like the overall colours better, and the detial in the bidge, mailbox, etc in the background is interesting. Good capture, wouldn't tell it's from a p&s.

that's not an easy choice because either rendering can serve a purpose

I think if the first one was a sepia color it would work well with the flare. Until then it looks like an odd mix of a new photo with an old fade.

My vote is for 2

I vote #1. I love "older" looking photographs when they weren't all perfect. Uniqueness still has a place with me. Nice job.

i would go with the second but it does have just a tad green cast to it. The reasoning for the second instead of the first being that the "sun flare" is fake and you can tell.

An interesting remark in this world of pp'ing everything to perfection. Quite refreshing too! :)

I prefer #1 too.

......being that the "sun flare" is fake and you can tell.

I wonder if this is true....

I like the sun flare one - gives a special "summer - hot day" feel to the picture.
The second one is just a "middle of the road" shot with a lot of distracting clutter while that same clutter is masked by the flare in the first one.

I can garantee it is true... look at the flare itself... its too perfect of a circle..

I voted sun flare only because the second one kind of looks just like a snap shot, and I felt like the sun flare gave it more of a special feel, but the more and more I look at it the more I realize how fake the sun flare looks. I still like it better but I really wish it looked more natural.

yup....sun flare is fake, just look at the shadow casts by the objects. this image wouldve been shot at around noon/1pm. that and you cant recover anything from blown highlights. and on the second picture, there was a group of trees which the sunlight wouldnt have been able to pass through

pretty good PP on the sun flare!

The sun flare simulates a different "look", similar to how shallow DOF gives a different appearance. The no sun flare looks like an average snapshot with too much DOF.
