Challenge #266 - Con moto
Images that show movement are particular favourites of mine (blur is good!). For this challenge, I'd like to see 'photojournalistic'/story-telling shots that portray a mix of both frozen/static, and moving subject matter. Be creative,.... action-stopping shots of cars 'drifting' has pretty well been done to death!

Thanks to all for entering into the spirit of this challenge. Several entries stood out in my opinion. So to the results...a close call between 1st and 2nd!
1st Place: 'Minimadness' - Athrasher
This shot stands out for several reasons - the strong sense of movement emphasised by the light trails contrasting with the sharpness of the light radiating from the headlights, the positioning of the mini in the shot (Rule of thirds), the colour, and a sense of urgency emphasised by the starkness of the headlights reflected in what must be a wet road surface, and the light trails from the body of the car. Excellent capture!
2nd Place: 'Green means go' - Boutty.
I love this type of image. There's a story going on, emphasised by the blurry movement of the figures, the 'jeep' starting off from the lights...the pedestrian dashing across the road ahead of the jeep.... the other pedestrians loitering on the corner. B&W provides a strong contrast between the movement and the many vertical and horizontal lines. Another super capture.
3rd Place: 'Zest in the City' - Marie.
Love the title... This has the requisite sharpness in one grounded foot of each pedestrian. and anchors the moment, while the movement of the figures rushes on. Perhaps a little more sharpness in the restaurant name signage would have made this shot more compelling.

Honourable mention!
'Competitive enough' - PaulB.
The looks on the faces (especially on the right) shows desperation! We want to know who got to the ball first!
'Hotel Haunting' - king benny.
Again, a strong B/W image with the freaky headless cleaner..... I'd love to see a correction of the left side verticals (a little distracting), or a closer crop perhaps.

Again, thanks to all for entering. Over to you, Athrasher.

Congrats to the winners, cool photos!

I'm wondering...does Marie toss flower pots when not photographing those below? ;-)
Might help explain the people's hurried pace, is my thinking.

teekay, okay...howdjuh get the Alice in Wonderland effect with the clock face? Very cool.

Congratulations athrasher, welcome to the challenges. You started in good style! :). Making brurred people the main subject of a picture is an art and Boutty and marie showed that more than once. Clever and interesting pictures, thanks for sharing them.

Thanks to the other participants too and to IainB that is an important part of these challenges since challenge #5 or #6.

Apologies for posting precisely a drifting car after IainB's remark. Careless reading of the theme description may lead to a bad end.

On my defense, I can say that the pictures were shot, with this challenge in mind, on Friday afternoon although with the wrong subjects on them:

Congratulations to the deserving winners - an interesting challenge!

To those who asked about my weird Einstein's clock, it was a desperation entry due to various inadequate excuses such as bad weather, busy with other stuff and, last but not least, my "bargain" Ebay G1 having a permanent disability ("functionally challenged" since the 4-way button won't work up-down).

I wanted a shot of the moving hands on a clock, but when just the blurred second hand looked blah, I played around with "Effects" in PSP and got that result.

After posting, of course I thought of all sorts of better shots I could have taken...as usual.

Teekay, your shot was fascinating (sorry to hear about your 'technically challenged' G1. Only another G1 owner would know and feel the anguish you are experiencing...
I confess I didn't make out the blurred second hand on my monitor.

Rpolitsr, relax! Your car was not 'drifting' (loss of traction in a less-than-foward direction)! I was however looking for some static/sharp part of the subject matter in your shot.....;)

Now that was an interesting challenge!!

Congrats to the winners - some great shots here. As I read them daily and saw the list getting bigger and bigger I decided that it would be a difficult task to judge for sure!!

I guess if I hope to be any where near competitive in these challenges, I better devote some time to creating an appropriate picture instead of digging through my archives like I have done 100% of the time so far!:oops:

teekay - That is an interesting photo! When I saw that I just stared at it for a minute, not really thinking, just staring in awe! Great shot! The best thought I could conjure up is "What the heck is that?" It has a very fascinating effect. I love it! I would like to see it from further away to really understand the subject. Well done.

Though I am usually busier than a one legged man in a fanny kicking contest, I do try to find something to post for these contests. I do really enjoy the participation.

Oops, just realized that a few challenges ago, I dragged out my jukebox and shot it specifically for the challenge. So the previous statement about the archives is incorrect. Will you guys forgive me??

Congrats to the winners...Iain, I almost thought this would be too hard for me to enter so i learned something new .......again. Thanks for the hosting job.

Athrasher, Welcome to the G-Series forum and hearty congrats.

Forgiven? Now that's not a word we need to use in this happy forum! The whole idea of this forum is to try, invent, extend, take risks. In the words of a fellow New Zealander (Sir Edmund Hillary - Everest) "nothing venture...nothing gain". So, enter your shots - if they work, we'll tell you. If they don't, we'll tell you!:D

Thanks Maureen. I'm beginning to think the real challenge is creating a new challenge....
Good topic, Athrasher. May 'the force' be with us...

:)

Congratulations to the winner Athrasher
and to runner up Boutty
terrific shots
and all over from everyone
thank you very much for # 3 Iain and for all the comments
I really felt for you as it was difficult task and would not envy anyone having to make choices. ever. always feel for the people having to judge or even run a challenge

: )
Big welcome to the newcomers

lol
Kevan, funny onion
lol
that picture was photographed through a glass 3rd floor hotel window in London's Piccadilly , the centre.
a sudden fierce noisy thunder storm, with rain almost unseen the likes of before  clattering down so sudden

but, on the bonus side things seemed so funny when I looked down onto the street
everyone was dashing helter skelter for cover
that picture was taken almost when everyone had cleared
I was a bit afraid to stand too near the window as the lightning was flashing non stop

since then that lovely big old hotel has all been knocked down to the ground as asbestos was found in the roots of its making, so it has been difficult to even demolish all . last year I took photos of its large rear which was in bits down that and other streets in close proximity to where the hotel had stood and which had stretched back into a few streets
:(may she rest in peace and may the new shopping centre..... which I believe is maybe going to be there instead ....... go away:evil:

maybe it is already up and running (hopefully 'running'..... as in... 'off with its head'

we all have enough shops to do us, like forever and ever

have a great day y'awl
Happy St. Patrick's :D

Best of luck to the winner

BoBs your Uncle
even digging through the archives causes lotsa pain
nothing to forgive
lol

Congratulations to the winner Athrasher & 2nd runners up Marie. Thanks to my POTN's cousin Iain for the interesting theme and the difficult judging duties. Great shots Everyone! I enjoy all the movements everyone had managed to capture. Oh! Thanks Iain for loving my shot & the r-up - sir rafael was right; Marie's & mine were previously entered in these challenges before. Great detective work sir. Funny enough they both were shot from a high point of view. This challenge sets me another little project to use my G1 with IR filter attachment to capture more of the Con moto style of work. :p

Thanks so much corythosaurus for the kind words. This means a lot to me. Okay, I can be hired at reasonable rate and i will be cheaper as I charge in Australian dollars.

BTW, the Slow down picture of you is nice, it has great colour and nice blurred motions , just wish it was taken by me! I would print it big & have it hung on the wall! ;)

oops! I was not meaning that they were posted on other challenges, those pictures reminded me of other pictures: Boutty's son blurred while playing on a slide in the garden or marie shooting while tuning on her own feet to blur the picture :). It may be hard to find them to post a link...
