I always perfer to have the image in-line.

Its a pretty dog.

1) I like the out-of-focus background. It gives it a more intimate feeling. Just the viewer and the dog.

2) The dog isn't looking at the camera, which for this pose, I think is a good thing. I might have cropped it just a little bit more on the left. (so the head of the dog was more on the right 1/3 of the frame).

3) Note the glint in the dogs eye. Its really important to have that. You might even go to the extreme of using a very soft fill flash just to get a glint reflection in the eyes. Try it sometime. Take one with a flash, and one without. If an animal doesn't have a glint in its eyes, it look dead.

4) I wonder how it would look if the shot was a little higher, and to the right, so that both of the dogs eyes were in the frame, and there was a little less slobber in the frame.
