My new lens is coming today! I know this one can be tricky at first, so any advice? I know Lord V has one, anyone else? I obviously bought a ring flash with it, so I'm covered there.

Lots of use using it.

Use flash, set f11 for 1:1, open up as you increase the magnification.

If you are used to another macro lens like the 100mm then it should not be too much of a shock.

Typical beginners problems are:

i) finding the subject in the viewfinder, start at 1:1 and then increase steadily taking shots. Perhaps start with inanimate test subjects
ii) sufficient field craft to approach the subject without it escaping.

Enjoy.

Congrats, it is basically glued to my 7D and my 40D before that. Use a wider aperture at the higher magnifications for very best resolution although f13 at x5 will be perfectly acceptable.
