I just purchased another 50D and forget if 1.0.7 is the latest firmware version. I've searched the internet and am pretty sure, but not positive.

Any other helpful hints about your settings as a refresher for me would be greatly appreciated. After returning from Nikon, I remember most everything, but some things I find confusing. The dreaded thumb dial! lol

Oh yeah, got a big piece of dust in the new 24-70L too. Tried the sensor cleaning, so I'm sure it's in the lens. Fantastic.

Thanks much.

And about your dust... It is probably on the sensor... Even if your "cleaning" did not get rid of it.

Try another lens... Is the spot still there? Probably will be...

If it is only with that lens though, must be one HUGE piece of dust...

Unfortunately, I only have one lens at the moment. Should I wait until my next lens arrives next week and see if it still happens? This sucks. :(

Should I try mirror-lock up for the hell of it and then just return to the normal camera settings and see if that helps? I am NOT goin' in there on my own to clean it.

I am guessing, 99% chance it is on the sensor. Dust in the lens will almost NEVER show up in a photo.

You need to wet clean the sensor, or send it to Canon to clean it for you. Copper Hill kit is great for self wet cleaning. Easy and safe.

It's about the only way to clean it... Sometimes, the automatic feature will not remove everything.

B&H is saying I should return everything. That sucks. How much is that gonna cost for their mistake? Grrr... Getting it cleaned would cost about $50 according to them.

If you send it to Canon, how much does that cost - or can I do it under warranty? Is it just more worth it to try again? Pisses me off as I just set everything the way I wanted it, etc.

Going to send the camera back only. Took the lens off and the dust is still showing, so you're right... not the lens. Am sending it back with free shipping for another one. Frustrating. Watch, I'll get another one with dust.

Sorry to tell you, but your new one will get dusty as well. It is a part of having SLR's... You HAVE to clean them. They are not sealed in any way from dust reaching the sensor and showing up in images. Most of us use a rocket blower to remove light dust, or use a wet-cleaning kit and do it ourselves. I do mine every few weeks/months depending, once dust spots start showing up again :D

It will happen... Trading for a new body will not solve anything. The new one will get "dusty". The best preventative is to never change lenses, basically. As soon as you open the front, dust will and can reach the sensor. Usually though, unless very bad, will only be noticeable at small apertures.

:p

Wait wait.. This dust your seeing... You can see it with the lens... Off? So you see the specs of dust when looking through the viewfinder?

It's on your focusing screen(?) I believe it is then... It will NOT show up in your images. Just annoying, that's all!

My 7D has like 3-5 specs already up there, and counting!

Yeah, Steve, that's what I figured. But I got talked into sending it back (by B&H believe it or not!), so off it went. I must be the exception to the rule. I have not once had a dust issue and I've had A LOT of dslrs and lenses!
