I just purchased an EOS 20D with an 18-55mm lens and a 28-135mm IS lens.
This incredible camera is much more capable and sophisticated than I was prepared for, and now I'm looking for help to understand and utilize it's many features.

The manual, which is very basic, is not much help. It explains a little about most of the cameras features, but does not get into any real explanations of why you would do this or that.

Are there and good Classes or Seminars available for this particular camera, or ones for similar equipment? So far the only thing I can come up with is a class at a local Junior College or a Vocational School, which Im not so sure is the answer.

Please, someone must know of something out there that would be usefull.

Kind regards to all who read this,
Mike Wendell

I took a photography class at the local Vocational school.

However, since summer is here and school is out you may have a hard time finding a class that takes place in a school.

Don't limit yourself to just a digital specific class. I actually took a class that was designed for 35mm print [yes can you believe it!]. The only stipulation that the instructor said was that we could not crop the pictures in any way. Just print what we shoot.

It was a very interesting class and the cost was minimal.

Try looking here, its direct from Canon http://www.photoworkshop.com

Here is a direct link to the needed page regarding the 20D: http://www.photoworkshop.com/canon/index.html

Once there, click on the "Pro" graphic at the bottom, then click on the "20D" link.

And I would also pick up a copy of:

Understanding Exposure
Revised Edition
by Bryan Peterson

I bought a copy from Amazon for a good price. This book will be of imense help regarding apertures and shutter speeds. Geared towards the beginer or any one who would just like a quick refresher course on the basics of photography.

Classes can be tough to pick. First, you need to know what level of class you need.

(1) basic photography class, including basics of a camera, basic composition, etc.
(2) advanced photography class, more of the basics, plus techniques
(3) digital photography class, including how a digital camera works, digital post-processing, etc.
(4) advanced digital photography class, mostly post-processing

There is a lot of this online. However, (1) is something that you almost have to sit in the classroom for.

If I do say so, I think this forum can be an excellent source of information once you have the basics mastered. Just lurk.
