They both look out of focus, especially #1. Try a faster shutter speed. The second one has to much shadow on her face as well.

Absolutely love the angle and lighting of photo #1, but it seems terribly out of focus.

Agree with the previou posters. But... these bloody microphones - they are always in the way. I do not do artists on stage but "speakers" at formal occasions. And that microphone... I hate that thing.

1 - unfortunately the eyes are not in focus. That's a pretty important thing. The halo of light through his hair is great, the angle is good. The expression isn't bad, but try to go for more unique/passionate expressions with musicians.

2 - Despite the things pointed out by previous posters, I like this one. The eyes could take to be a bit sharper. There is a shadow over her mouth - important thing with a vocalist is to see the mouth, but I like how the purple hair and the eyes are lit up, it's a good capture.

What gear and settings were you using?

If you want to shoot live music professionally (I hope to one day) you need to learn to "take the best live music photos in the world" because there's just so much competition out there, most of whom are willing to do it for free. I'm quoting editorial music photographer Zack Arias here. So keep shooting, try to capture the most interesting and passionate expressions you can get =D

Welcome to the forum by the way!

Congratulations on the sale. Wow, 1/6sec o.O Guess that image stabilisation really does work. Though I usually go for faster shutter speeds and wider apertures.

I actually like the second 2 you posted better, especially the last one, great expression and light.

Focus seems to be on the mouth and chin in the first one. Maybe some motion blur too. This one was sold? In that case, great shot!

Like another poster, I hate microphones. I'll wait for the moment when the singer pulls it away from her face. Sometimes one has to wait a very long time.
