I took these on a trip to Southern West Virginia my wife and I took this past weekend. I was determined to get some train shots that day - this is what I came back with. These were taken in Thurmond, WV (http://www.nps.gov/neri/historyculture/thurmond.htm). All taken hand-held with my XSi and 24-70L. Let me know what you think.

#1. I was out of the car no longer than 2 minutes before I heard this one coming down the tracks.

#2. This one came to a stop in the middle of town - me on one side of the tracks, my wife on the other. Luckily, it didn't stay there for long.

#3. In fact, it went down a siding, uncoupled, and came back.

I just saw one of these engines today for the first time. Never see them up north I guess.

Nice! I've always liked the scheme of the CSX engines!

I agree. I like this color scheme alot better than the new dark blue & yellow that CSX is going to.

BNSF has some nice colors on its locos as well.

Thanks for the comments. I guess when you see CSX all the time, it isn't too impressive. I always get excited when I see something that isn't blue and yellow around these parts. Don't think I've seen any BNSF here, but once did see UP.

Looks like a great spot to get shots of trains at work. CSX has quite the mixed bag of paint schemes.

Ha, I see these all the time in Boston. The only freighter in these parts as far as I know. Nonetheless, nice locomotive to look at.
