You probably saw the Lensmate. I have one I leave on may G1 all the time, and many others have appreciated its use on the Canon Forum at DPReview. You can find it as well as filters and close-up adapters at http://www.lensmateonline.com
A very nice-to-do-business-with company.

Is the LensMate long enough to accomodate the camera's lens when fully extended? The Canon lens adapter, when fitted with a UV filter, isn't long enough. The only way around it is to add a step-up ring as a spacer to avoid the two from touching each other.

Thanks,

Nancy

I have the Canon adaptor and have not been aware of any problem with the lens hitting the filter. Have you experienced this actually happening?

I don't have the Canon adapter. The Lensmate is long enough to have filters clear the end of the lens.

I went to a local camera shop to buy the canon adapter and a UV filter in order to protect the G1 lens. My brother has a UV filter on his 35mm for protection so I thought this would be good for the G1 too. When the G1 was fully extended it touched the UV filter (barely) but it did touch and I didn't feel comfy with that kind of setup so I purchased a step-up ring for added length. Perhaps this wasn't the best way to go, especially now that I've just heard about the LensMate. I'm a novice so if this wasn't the best way to go, please let me know. Thanks!

Although my camera doesn't arrive until tomorrow (I'm praying!), I already received my Lensmate. Their customer service rocks! They had it out to me the same day -- and I got it a day later for only $4.50 shipping. It was packed VERY well.

As far as I have heard, the Canon lens adapter obscures the port that the remote talks to for remote shooting, which the Lensmate doesn't. I also read that the Lensmate clears the lens when fully extended. This was what I found when I researched the camera and Lensmate -- but I have NOT actually tested the products yet.

This was a good Lensmate link with lots of info:
