Hi guys, This is my 2nd 20D from DELL... With this one, im experiencig problems with the damn shutter button. I was giving it a test run in my room and i push it 1/2 way... Most of the time it works... but some of the times the viewfinder is totally blurry, and red dots are lighting up saying it focused on some of them, and alows me to take the shot! Some of the times when i push the button 1/2 way or all the way it doesnt do ANYTHING!!!

An i shooting or pushing it too much in a short period of time? This is this even normal... It doest not do it all the time... on some occasions....

Also, last night it turned on the on the power button with a fully charged battery and it didnt turn on. Nothing on the top screen came up, Then i moved it to the 2nd part of power, and it turned on, back the the 3rd power thingy, and it turned back off. Is this thing defective. I only have a few days to inform dell of the problems. Any help would be great!!!

Try it in manual focus and tell us what happens. The power switch has 3 positions, bottom is off, 2nd is on with the back dial diabled, 3rd is on with everything enabled. Sounds like you need to read the manual, but it doesn't sound like it's working properly either.

On page 65 it says "if focus cannot be achieved, the focus confirmation light in the viewfinder will blink. If this occurs a picture cannot be taken even if the shutter button is pressed fully. When this happens re-compose and focus again or seen "When autofocus fails (Manual Focusing) p. 70

Once in a while due to low ISO and little definition to focus upon the camera will just not take a picture. Increase the ISO and try and find some item with detail to focus on.

I have not had mine in hand long enough but I think if what you are describing to me happened to my camera. I would definately at least call Canon and talk to them on the phone! Then if they say it is toast. Then I would contact Dell.

I think Tim and glangston have it cracked ... and if they haven't then benhasajeep might!

thanks guys so much for the help, another think i think it might be.. is the 18-55 lens itself. Im guessing it doesnt have the hottest computer inside the lens. When i used my 17-40L , it didnt really do the things im taking about. The focus was usually very fast and didnt spend a lot of time hunting for focus, even with my 75-300 was able to lock onto things like a white wall... Maby ive been to agressive with the trigger button in making it want to shoot when its trying to tell me something.

As for the power button... I took the battery out, put it back it, and all problems went away. weird?

P.S. I also tried the exact same thing in the same place in my house with my friends 20D, i got the same results for the focusing... I just hope i dont have anything wrong with the contacts in my power switch (different issue than the focusing)

If this things give me anymore bull**** im gona go buy a Nikon =P

For $1500 this 20D better do what its told =) I might need to invest in some better glass with better focusing computer inside. I guess the 18-55 isnt as hot as i wanted it to be.

Read the manual, sounds like you don't understand the camera. Also try what I said in my first post, there's no point asking for advice if you don't take suggestions people make.

i did read the manual, and im really tech savy... I know how to use the camera really well... I had a D70 and a rebel before i got this camera... It was just acting up on me. The focusing seems fine.. I had the power switch to the ALL on position, and there was no sign of live,... at all. It never did this till last night, for the first time... Maby it was some freak thing with the switch contact. I know one turns off the dial and one is ALL on. After i took the battey out/in it started workin fine. I just get a lil freaked out b/c i dont want problems in the future.
