Hi, I hope this is the section for my desparation. I got my first back drop and light today in the mail, along with my first new lens, 50mm 1.4. So I set up my BD and my new light and I get my puppy to sit for me and I play with my settings thinking they look really good on my lcd and sadly when I upload them they are all yellow and just don't look that great! I just don't know what I did wrong. I would LOVE to have some advice, please? Pretty Please?

Here are some examples:

I am assuming I didn't have enough light, but when I used my flash at these settings it went completely overexposed. and I figured I could get a halfway decent picture even with only one light. :(

Cute dog.
I actually like the pictures, but you might want to increase the depth of field (looks quite shallow) - but actually that's a composition choice.
Also you might want to check the white balance, try using the custom balance if shooting JPEG.
And of course, the lighting - try using natural light if you don't have a good flash - or bounce the flash to get rid of the shadow.

I can't give you advice on how to take them, but I have had to fix some like this in post processing... (prob best to retake them)

the first trick to these dark typ photos is to first adust "shadow/highlight" in pscs

then play with levels, saturation, contrast... etc...

I did a quickie example of what I mean... (but this is never a perfect fix it is best to start with better photos... again I cannot help you with that part, just learning myself)

by the way is it just me, or are the eyes two different colors?

Cute pup (redundant, I know :) ) Dragonfly.
Bootless, that's great work on the pic!
Definitely 2 different color eyes ;)

I'd bouce a flash off the ceiling and make sure your aperture is up to about 5.6 to get better DOF.

Cute pup.

As they said, learn WB. Good start, though. Maybe try to get more down to the dogs level. You wouldn't like pics taken of the top of your head, would you? ;-)

I like the shallow DOF. You need to figure out your white balance. If you shoot in RAW it should be easy to correct in a RAW editor.

she is about 10 lbs and about 10 inches at her back. I was sitting, if I had laid down, (she is 5 months old) I would have slobber on the lens. ;) at this age, I was as low as I could go.

As for white balance, thanks for the advice!!! I will be playing with settings all day today. I did get my 420ex in the mail yesterday so I am hopeing some flash fill will help too.
I LOVE THIS BOARD!! Thank you all!!
