I got the J3B Super Compact and the J5B J-5XB today and I have a few questions
The bigger one seems maybe too big for a camera + 2-3 lenses. Is there one like this but slightly smaller? I have a hard time telling from the pics and this is suppose to be "super compact"
On the small one I thought I could tote an extra lens but seems big enough for the camera with 85L attached. Is it OK to use it with the camera insides lens down? (sorry if it's a daft questions but I honestly don't know)
Thanks in advance and don't laugh that after all this time I got boy's bags LOL

I'm not as familiar with the J series but I think the F3 is smaller than the J3.

Well, I use the F3x for a body (1D3 or ungripped 5D/20D/7D) with 24-70 and another lens or two (70-200 or Sigma 15-30) in the main compartment. That's a hair bigger than the J3B. If I was using only primes of 100 mm or shorter, I'd maybe look at the F6; it's not all that different in volume, just arranged differently. My F5xb works fine with an ungripped body (1D3 need not apply) with the 24-70 on and a flash. You could put the camera, standing on your 85, in there no problem. Most of the time my cameras are in the bag nose-down.

Thanks Jon and Ken!
Jon I got to go look those up but on this tiny computer with a blue screen it's hard LOL I had all the links open on my old computer before it died.
I usually wear the camera while walking round the park and such but want to carry another lens without having a huge bag.
So my current list of bags I want ideally is.......
1 think tank roller for everything
1 bag big enough for the 5dm2 + 2 or 3 lens (smaller rather than bigger I'm leaning towards)
and 1 bag big enough for either lens alone or camera with attached lens, nothing else.
So if I have the big bag in the car I can take out the camera and put it on and then stick a lens or flash in a small bag.
Am I too confusing?
I quite like the way these 2 look and well made and hubbie likes them which is good as I use him to carry bags usually ;)

Shootsac is what my friend, Brittany, uses. It is made by a photographer, Jessica Claire.
http://shootsac.com/
It's a flat bag, just for lenses and a camera body, even with a grip, no lens attached. Brittany loves this bag because she can put 3 lenses in the one compartment and the camera body in the other. She can even fit 2 camera bodies if she pushes it, but it isn't very thick. But I don't use such bags as I like storing my cameras in my F-802 with lenses attached and yes, I store them face down. :)

I have the F3 for my Nikon gear. I carry a d80+grip, 18-200VR, 75-300VR, 50/1.4 and a Nikon flash (SB600) with room left over.
This is my first Domke bag; I've been a Domke customer for 20 years or more. That's how old my Domke vest is.
The Domke bag I have works so well I can't tell it's there. My camera is immediately where I want it. Lens changing is easier than with any other bag I've had.
My name is Dave, I'm a bagaholic.
edit: I also carry a G11 in the bag in one of the outside end pockets. I took all my gear to the camera store and started putting it in bags. They tried to sell me a different brand, saying they "sell these to other picky people."

Did you find a bag that you like?
I found the Tiffen/Domke forum when I was trying to make up my mind. Here's a link:

Mr. Domke actually posts there!
He has an interesting concept of equipment accessibility. Took me years to buy into it. Now I have my first Domke bag, I wonder why it took me so long!
Bags are a very personal choice. The right one makes an incredible difference.

Did you look at the Crumpler series of bags? My friend has one and he seems to like it. It looks good too. But that Shootsac looks pretty cool too, I like how slim it is. I might have to get one myself for those times I want to just want my body and a couple of lenses.

I just picked up the shootsac. So far, I like how light and small it is. Granted you can't hold more than three lenses, but if you are going light, you can't beat it.
