I'm obsessed with silhouette portraits, but I can't figure out how to set them up. Here's an example of the effect I like:

Does it have to be an incredibly sunny day? I'm just lost and could use some insight and advice! =)

Backlight your subject and underexpose the foreground.................

have something bright in the background (be it a sunny window or a bright light) and meter on it rather than metering on the subject.

I can't see the photo (blocked here at work), but the general idea is to have a very bright background (with, ideally, no light falling onto the front of your subject). To get the subject to be dark, you'll expose the shot for the background by filling the frame with only the background, setting the exposure, and keeping that exposure with your subject now in the frame.
