The new teams seem to be working out their kinks still, ferrari doesnt look to good against mercedes and brawn. Im thinking Brawn might do it again this year, he is a f1 genius lol.

I'd say try some faster shutter speeds than 1/500. A lot of the images look a bit on the "soft" side, great shots, but a tiny bit soft.
Also, maybe save in sRGB rather than Adobe for internet display.
For some reason the images look to have a bit of noise, you could try the "expose right" concept and bring it down in post. If you are underexposing the shots and brightening them in post that would explain the noise/grainy look to them.
Try to keep the early morning or late afternoon sun at your back and shoot cars on track then, otherwise (mid-day sun) shoot in the pits or different kinds of shots. Harsh mid-day sun doesn't make the colors you want for your shots.

Schumi started in a merc, so I'd say that's loyalty. On another note, Ferrari pretty much asked him to leave. (or so I've heard.)
I'd use your 40D with the 70-200 and possible your TC with it. You'll get the most reach with that setup. Also, the AF on the 40D is going to be pretty good as well.
Nice shots btw.

I lowered my shutter speeds to achieve more motion in my pics but I will try higher shutterspeeds tomorrow. Also bahrains f1 track is very limited as to where and when you can take pictures. It is almost impossible to move around frankly, the sun is pretty much everywhere from 9-4... its a desert afterall ;) . Unless someone gives me a pit pass (2000 usd) or a media pass im pretty much stuck near turn one :( . There are high fences everywhere and you dont have the freedom to walk around the track so I make do with what I have. But thanks for the advice I will try to apply it in other motorsport events later on :D
I think the noise that you are seeing maybe due to photobucket, these are downrez files and photobucket kinda blows to be honest. I need to find a better host site.

I think you did very well. I'm looking forward to more images from the weekend. During the race try to get more than just one car in the frame. It'll define the racing better. Thanks for sharing. :D

I think it's an excellent effort. I remember trying to photograph the cars in 06, and it was a big of a mission at times! Loving the Lotus one!

Flickr works really well and lets you choose the size you want to post. Works great for me.

There is no reason why you shouldn't be getting sharp shots at 1/160 with the 40D and all the L glass you have listed. Personally the extreme tilt in 5 & 6 doesn't do it for me. I think 7 would work a lot better cropped closer to the car. Right now it looks like your panning was off and you only caught 1/2 the car in the pic. Bahrain looks like a pretty boring circuit photo wise so you could be hard pressed to get anything really spectacular.

I might have to work on my panning technique a bit more. I am using the 40D with the 70-200L and 1.4tc attached. It is kinda of a boring circuit to be honest, if I could get a media access pass I could possibly catch more dynamic shots. Should I use all points in a ai-servo to focus? Right now im just using the center point. It seems my keeper rate is really low too, maybe 3 out of 6 are in focus. Yesterday I only took pics of the drivers lol, but today I will be shooting the race. We will see how that goes lol.

I use flickr most of the time now to host the images I use on here. I resize my images to 800 pixels wide using Lightroom. Then upload them to flickr.
To get the link to the flickr image, from your photostream in flickr click on the picture you are interested in. Across the top of the picture there are number of options, look for 'All Sizes' and click on that. You will get a new screen displayed showing the image as you uploaded it. You can also choose to view the picture in alternative sizes.
Scroll down the page a little way and it comes up with the heading 'To link to this photo on other websites you can either:'
Go down to option two ... it contains the URL of the image.
Copy this and with the insert image option in this forum paste the URL you have just copied and away you go!!
Hope that helps!

Stick with a single focus point. Since you're further away from the cars you'll have to be spot on with your panning since any small movement of the camera will be magnified due to the distance.
