I was wondering if maybe the next time the fourm updates if it would be possible to have a P&S exclusive sharing section? I know that it doesn't matter what cammera you use to take the picture in any of the sharing catagories.

However it might be interesting to have a board completely devoted to P&S pictures where people viewing can be 90% sure what they are viewing are from a P&S and not a 20D or Rebel.

It would also be helpful to those new to photography to sort of have a place where they can show of their snap shots or learn about the capabilities of their P&S camera.

I use a P&S digital Camera because at the moment that is all I need as I still use film heavily for my SLR. I would be willing to help out and participate should you consider creating a Point & Shoot Sharing board.

Just an idea. Thanks for your time.

We have all seen, and most of us have made, great images from P&S cameras. I even posted one here made from a 2.1 megapixel P&S. After thousands of shots with my DSLR, that old 2.1 MP photo is still the only one I have ever liked well enough to hang on my office wall.

Still, I guess I don't understand the need to separate images according to the equipment used. Those little cameras with their little sensors and lenses are actually better suited for certain types of shots than larger format cameras. What do you hope to gain from a dedicated P&S section?

Well not separate rather just a section where you wont see comments like "You should have used a filter" or "The macro is ok but you should try zooming in a bit more" or other technical SLR type comments that are simply not possible with most P&S, even G series.

It might be interesting to see what people can do with a P&S camera with out having to wonder if it was a 20D or not. More important it might be inspiring to those new to photography for them to see what their little camera can do. I have heard far too many times from different photographers that you can't take a good picture with a P&S. And I have heard many times from P&S owners that they can't take good pictures until they get a SLR. Both in my opinion are false. You can take awesome pictures with a P&S!

Plain and simple, the photographer makes the picture, not the camera. I've seen great shots from disposables, and horrible large format shots..... Being my second day to the forum, I'll obstain from putting an opinion about a new forum section though! lol

That is exactly right Rigrider! Its like if you want to paint paintings, you can go out and buy the best paint brushes and paints in the world but unless you have the creative ability the best paints wont help you. Same thing with a camera. I've seen horrible shots from people who went out and bought a 20D because someone told them it's the best. Then again, others have taken shots with $100 cameras that rival a $2000 camera! Because the camera is a tool and they know this. They use what they got the best they can and it shows.

You need an eye for photography and you also need to be daring, you have to be creative and most of all you have to be willing to get dirty instead of standing all the time. At least from my experience that's what I do.

I kinda see your point. I don't know if or when the forum gods will oblige you, but you could start a thread called "Post your best P&S shots here!" Start with a few that you're proud of, and encourage others to do the same. See what happens.
