Hi, If I'm just taking landscapes and basic poses, with no sports shots or other continuous shutter shots, do I need the faster newer memory. Cant really see how the faster speed will help me.

Should I get normal, faster or......I hear some people taking about even faster (Ultra111 or something)

what camera do you have?
i would recommend ultra II no matter what camera you have..since its quick..and not much more expensive than the slower cards of sandisk..
and if you ever need to . you will sell them immediatley

I find that the SanDisk Ultra II 1 or 2 GB is the most cost effective for me.

remember even if your camera can't use a high speed card to it's full potential, your usb 2 or firewire card reader will, so uploading a 2gb card, for example, will be quicker.

It's really just up to you. You don't say what camera you have, but the 20D has a 5 image (or so) memory buffer so you can shoot up to 5 shots without worrying about the speed of your CF card. If you will NEVER be shooting more than that continously then the CF speed doesn't matter when taking shots, it will make a difference when loading/uploading to the computer, but if you're willing to live with that you can get some great deals on lower speed CF cards. I bought a cheap 512 card for $20 or so just to try it out and it works fine when I'm shooting landscapes etc. but I'd NEVER even think about using it to shoot sports.

I have a few cheap simpletech 1gb cards, they are rated pretty darn slow (they are advertised at 5mb/sec), but they have absolutely no problem keeping up with the camera. I paid $35 each for them, and I couldnt be happier. I have had absolutely no problems with them, and I can pop off about 30-35 shots at about 4.5fps before they start bogging the camera down.


The only time they are too slow for me, is when I am using my pcmcia card reader to transfer the pictures to the PC.
