View Full Version : Metadata (exif) and Random Folders???

Ok, I'm new digital photography so please bare with me. I have 2 questions, but fist the specs: 300D with a PNY 1GB CF card.

Ok 1) For some reason, my camera isn't recording the propertime on some of my shots. I've checked the internal clock, and all is set properly, but I keep getting strange times showing up when I look at my metadata in Photoshop's Bridge (or in the File info itself.) It dosen't happen all the time, just on some shots. For example: In my 6am at the lake shot (link (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=84111)), File info show the Date/Time area as: 2005-07-01T02:49:08-04:00. The shot was actually taken right around 6 in the morning on the 2nd of July...not the first. Again, checked the clock and all is right internally. Any idea's??

2) The other thing is that my CF card seems to be randomly creating file folders to store my shots in. There dosen't seem to be any sort of order to where they appear. Sometimes 1 folder will hold 10 shots, other times it will hold 40 shots. Any Info about this would be appreciated as well.

Oh and as a quick third, I'm getting quite a bit of "corrupt data" files as well. I think in the 3 weeks (or so) That I've owned the camera, I've lost about 10 pics. This isn't a big deal now, but if I find myself on a shooting spree and lose the "good" shots, i can see myself being quite peeved. I'm pretty sure this is due to the cheap memory card though so....

Again, any help or ideas on these issue would be appreciated...

All the problems listed could be caused by a bad CF card. And since you mention that your's is a cheap one, that's sure where I would look first. Get a good card and see if the problems go away.

That was my worry. Ok, thanks. Guess, I'll have to put together the 200 bucks for a decent 1 gig!

You should be able to do a LOT better than $200 for a very good 1GB card.

As to the faulty times, I THINK I've read that The Bridge might be causing some of that problem. I know when I view pictures in MS Picture Editor and Viewer, it makes all of my times GMT. When queried, MS says they know that is a problem and "They're working on it."

Adobe has a forum devoted to the bridge. You could try checking there for other possibilities.

There has been an update to Adobe Bridge and it fixed my file problems AFTER I cleared its cache.

Good CF cards 1 GB from Sandisk don't cost 200 $.
For that price you can buy almost 3 CF cards from 1 GB.

Or you can buy 2 CF cards 1 GB from Sandisk Ultra II
and that costs less than 200 $.

In your camera there is a little battery for keeping the date and time.
Take it out and replace it with a new one. But before you place a new one
in the camera take a dry cloth and cleen the battery contacts and the
battery holder contacts in the camera. Don't touch the battery and the
camera contacts wiith your fingers once your cleened them.

I had the same problem with my 20 D and solved it that way.
I hope it solves your problems to. Good luck.
