Hello everyone,

As you can see I'm still a newbie in this forum (which I have found to most helpful, serious and professional of all Canon forums out there!). Not only so, I am also new to the world of SLR photography. I used to have a Powershot S20 but it got stolen. Luckily I was covered by my home insurrance and by pitching in over the claim restitution, I managed to get a G3 and now I feel I'm in a new world, as far as pictures are concerned ;-)

However, there's something not working with the custom startup picture, i.e. when I upload a picture to the Camera and set it as a startup image when the camera's turned on, as part of a theme. When I do that, making sure that I convert the jpg image to a 320x240 size and

kozmossis,

The manual also says to use Sampling Rate of 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 and Baseline JPEG.

My stand alone DVD player is capable of showing JPEGs on the TV, with a very basic built in slideshow function. I found it would display some but not all JPEGS. When I investigated, I realised that all the ones it did display were saved as "standard mode" in Ulead PhotoImpact and the ones that did not display were saved in "progressive mode". I believe Standard = Baseline.

Do you know how yours were saved?

Bruce

Hi again.....and BruceW thank you for your reply. I tried again this time using an old picture (from my S20 days), I then used Adobe ImageReady 7 instead of PS7 to resize and save the image in jpg form. It didn't ask me for datails about the jpg (i.e. file size, quality, compression...) however it worked, I now have my own startup picture on the cam, still need to insert custom sounds :-p
And I still need to see where the problem originated from, is it that pictures taken with the G3 have some different format? Or perhaps PS7 saves jpg in an incompatible mode? Will have to test.....let you know.....

Thanks again!

As a follow-up, I got contacted by Canon support. They suggested two things:

1_ Try taking pictures with the 640x480 resolution (as it is exactly double the required 320x240, hence the proportions will be maintained),

2_ Not to change the size of the picture as the camera will automatically do that when uploading the image to it (THAT"S SOMETHING I DIDN'T KNOW !!!!).

So I chose a picture taken with my G3 and tried uploading it as a startup image. Guess what? It works.
And it was at a high resolution (1024 or greater x ?).

So thank you Canon support!
