The large dynamic range of this scene invited a bit of HDR imaging.
A 6 shot HDR pushed a bit to give it a slightly hyper-real feel. Not the safest place to hang around too long, but loved the grit and colour.
C&C welcome.

I don't normally go for the "cartoony" HDR, but this is borderline (like you said) and it works REALLY well!
I'd bring down the HDR on the end (past the tunnel) to make the tunnel pop even more, but man, fantastic work!

Thanks Likwid, I'want to give this a few different treaments - I can see what you mean about toning down the HDR at the tunnel end to make the tunnel pop so I'll give that a try with some selective exposure blending

Nice processed image. HDR images are awesome when they push the edge between image and art. Great job.

I think if you just lowered the saturation for the outside area at the end of the tunnel it would work better. I don't think you need to blend in more exposures for that. Maybe, bump the saturation a bit more inside the tunnel too.
Pretty cool though. Nice shot.

when you put it in PhotoShop or where ever, just mask the end before you do the HDR, the trees look like your high on magic mushrooms or something :)

+1 here on that.

thanks guys I've tried some tweaking at the end of the tunnel. The first is simply desaturated, the second desaturated and brightness increased to make it more "natural"

I like the desaturation without brightness adjustment. I just thought the outside of the tunnel needed to be more real looking, but not necessarily what it was exposure wise.
