Hi, I got my 350xt a couple of months ago. But yesterday was the first time, I have actually played with it manually. It was hard to take a focused picture. Does anyone know why I could be having this kind of problem. Or I just don't know how to take pictures. I am a newbie and I am very eager to learn to take great shots. Hope you guys can help.

Thank you,
Angela

We will need to know details.

First of all, were you shooting a scene that was moderately well-lit, and the subject had some contrast?

What exposure mode did you have the camera in (P, Tv, etc.)? What autofocus mode was set (Single Shot, etc.)? Where did you place the center autofocus point with respect to the subject, or did you just let the camera auto-select what it was trying to autofocus on? Did the camera give you confirmation that it had autofocus lock? (If so, that means that it locked onto something, but that was not the subject that you had in mind.)

Did you try to focus the lens without using auto-focus?
I have a 350xt also and have problems seeing most images well enough to focus the lens myself. The viewfinder is a bit smaller than most 35mm cameras and my 60 year old eyes are not perfect. Auto focus works almost 100% of the time so I have decided to let my auto-focus do its job.
