A friend asked me to help them photograph their last game; I've never done ice hockey before, so I decided to give it a shot.

All were taken without flash, with an EF 70-200L IS USM.

Entire album available here. (http://horriblephotography.com/albums/Mother%20Puckers%20vs.%20Crows%20D/index.html)

generally focus and exposures look good for first time, however you need to work on getting better angles so as to capture faces better, and work on getting better action (isolate on person carrying puck, head up, eyes looking up). Also work on cropping in tighter to key action. White balance also could be adjusted on some images to counteract light cycling (some images have green cast, some have red cast, etc). If shooting through glass, get low (just above boards) for better angles on players. Try shooting from corners and shoot players as they come at you. Keep plugging!
