Full Throttle

I conceived this shot over on Saturday morning after I got frustrated that the Noreaster that was slamming us prevented me from taking my bike out for the first time this season. The concept was an image of me on my bike getting chased by a random car in a tunnel and having no choice but to go full throttle to get away.

For starters, I have to admit that my bike is definitely not the fastest in the world. It's just a 2007 Suzuki GS500F but hey, I just started riding around a year ago so I'm just working on upping my riding skills first. Anyhow, I spent a little over two hours to set everything up and get this shot the way I wanted since I had to everything by myself. I am the "model", photographer, assistant all in one...haha.

I thought about the mechanics for this shot and whether or not I should've been twisting the the throttle so I thought about how this scenario would've played out if I was actually riding. In my mind I would be cruising around, see the car in the side mirror, turn around and only fully twist the throttle when I'm facing forward. Maybe it's just me but going full throttle when not facing the direction I'm going is generally not a good idea....but I do see how exaggerating the throttle twist may have added some nice dramatic effect to the shot.

In that picture I'm actually on part throttle but I think the angle of the camera and the fact that i'm shooting ultra wide angle doesn't make it appear that way...hmm..

Did you play with adding Red/Blue Cop lights at all?

Yeah I thought about that, but I only have 4 speedlights which I used up for the shot but man, it would've looked nice putting some simulated cop lights in. I guess I could've just added it in post but I wanted to see how far I could push just doing it in-camera.

Great shot, love the idea and execution. I would think anyone who rides sport bikes would love this.

I would not do anything for cop lights in PP. Considering how much lighting would be added and the fact you (IMO) would be able to see some of the car because the red/blue lights are so bright....

I would also clone out the "grid" of lights on the front fairing.

The funny thing is that there is no car...lol. Those are just two strobes I positioned far in the back to pretend like there's a car there. I actually placed them closer together than a real car to give the illusion of distance.

As for the grid reflection in the front fairing. I cloned it out initially but then decided to keep it. If I'm indeed driving through a dimly lit tunnel, there'd be lighting on the sides sides of the tunnel that might have a grill or something in front of it so you'd expect there to be a reflection of some light so I left it in there.
