Took this picture just before we arrived at our hotel in the middle of no-where for our Valentine's weekend.

Is it just my monitor or is the bottom of your photo virtually black?
I do see a beatiful shot with the sunset tho.

No Conk- Don't think it's your monitor. Looks the very same to me as well. Except of course the beautiful colors of the sky, but the rest is black.

Thought mine was well calibrated but have to agree that after re-calibrating with Adobe Gamma and correcting the picture the result is better.
I did pay attention to keep details visible in even the darkest part.

Black on the bottom for me as well

I see the shadow details, barely visible in the first and more obvious in the 2nd (though still very dark.) The trunks of the trees and the road are visible in both shots on my monitor.
Now that I have calibrated my monitor with a colorimeter, I believe that Adobe Gamma does a so-so job. It's better than nothing, but it's nothing compared to what the colorimeter will do.
P.S. Nice pic, Henk. You might consider cropping a little of the bottom, to position your horizon line at the 1/3 level. Just a thought.

I'd also have to say that maybe cropping just under the tree line in the first photo may be the ticket. Much better blue in the first also.
I've calibrated my monitor twice now with Adobe gamma but I still think that I view photo's a little darker than they should be. It's a tough call because it isn't going to matter much if nobody else see's what you see. I suppose as long as the majority use adobe gamma to calibrate then those people will see virtually the same thing.
Mitch has to be different.:D

It looks good on my monitor, but I suggest doing some selective lightening on the road itself. With any luck that change will allow everyone to see that road stretching out over the horizon. It's worth the effort too, because it obviously adds a lot to the composition.
This sometimes works for me: create a new layer in PS (soft light) and use an airbrush to apply white to the road. It'll take some time, but it just may accomplish what you want after a few tries. Good luck!
