What do the various letters mean after the lens such as IS USM??? Are all lens compatable with the 20D??

EF is canon's designation for lenses compatible with its EOS line of film and digital SLRs
IS - Image Stabilization
USM - Ultrasonic Motor, used in auto focus system
DO - Diffractive Optics

L = Luxury
Roman Numerals indicate the lens version. (e.g.) II, III.
The 20D will take all EF and EF-S lenses without the need for any adaptors.
