Seems like it's becoming a Thursday night tradition as the thunderheads rolled in again. No rain, but I lost the evening light & contrast turned to mush. I shot this beauty anyway, but it deserves better treatment.

Chuck's '69 GTO is a member of the breed fondly refered to as "Goats". ;)
He's had it for 10 years. Engine is a 400 stroker block putting out 475 bhp through a Muncie "Rockcrusher" transmission to a 3.73 rear end. It has a 4" custom exhaust.

475 HP through a set of 4" exhaust? I guess you could never get away with calling it "Mellow Yellow". ;) Nice set of shots Frank. :D

when you say you see a lot of these around there do you mean as showpieces I see a lot of GTOs & about half of them have tails sticking out of the trunks. My foggy brain doesn't remember where that started. Bruce?

Sorry Frank, I just noticed this.
In the early days of the GTO, GM produced some specialty Goats with bigger engines than the 389 that was standard fare for GTO's. Engines such as 421's and later 428's found their way into these little Pontiacs, and it was decided that a special name was needed for these special cars. Royal Bobcats was the name they came up with, and club members (owners) of these special cars started affixing tails to their cars. I actually got to see a group of the Royal Bobcats that had a run to the lodge on top of Mt Charleston many years ago. Awesome sight it was.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. ;)

Thanks, Bruce. I was pretty sure that you'd know the story. All I could come up with was "Tiger in the Tank" & knew that wasn't right. ;)

LOOK, Marie has a new avatar! Almost looks like a headrest behind her & a tach in front!

it is/was the headrest Frank

I took that picture (not there now) when the car was flying around the corner in Waterford
(tall ships in the background)
looking into the side view mirror sticking out (on the sidehttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gif )............. the wind blowing a lovely breeze

http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
was hoping to capture everything in the shot
ships and all
(background)
I got one white piece of pole sticking up (behind my head) through the back window of the car
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
and a lot of headrest:p

:D:D You've changed it AGAIN! Now everyone will wonder if we've gone around the bend!

Tach = tachometer. Used to measure the rpms (Revolutions Per Minute) of engine speed. It's usually right up front where it can be easily seen. (Or you could just listen for the rods coming apart!) :D;)

the police use them for monitoring speeding cars
I see them all the time by the roadside.
the thingy resting on top of their squady and in front of their faces
it did look like that alright.

variety is the spice of life Yes! A "Goat" here. A "Mustang" there. A "Superbird"...
the police use them for monitoring speeding cars
No, again. A tach can't do that. That's RADAR, Laser or LIDAR (Light Detector and Ranging). Got to get up on the technology if you're going to drive a Muscle Car, Marie! (Or you probably won't have a license for long) ;)

now you just need to find us a perfect 442 Got one! Cream & brown stripes if I remember correctly. Still have no engine shot to go with it, so you'll have to wait a bit. ;)

Marie, I won't tell anyone! Besides, bicycles are supposed to be good for your legs!:D
