Ok, I'm not 100% sure if this is actually a problem but I'm worried it might get worst. The problem occurs when I turn the S2 off and the lens is supposed to retract. Instead of retracting instantly like it usually does, it starts retracting, stops for about 2 seconds (you can barely hear some kind of ticking sound) and finally it keeps retracting. At first it barely did 1 out 20 times I turned it off, but now it's the opposite! 1 out of 20 times it turns off normally, and today I got the same problem when turning it on! It hesitated when powering up :S Is this normal? Do you S2 (or S1) owners have the same problem? Everything else works great!

The worst part, I'm all the way in Guatemala (Central America) and this camera is not available over here yet (I bought it in the US)! So if you think this is NOT normal and I have to get it checked, I'm in a lot of trouble... please tell me this is normal :( :(

No, it's not normal from my experience with the S2. Shutdown only takes a second or two, and has been uniform since I bought the camera. It sounds like there is abnormal friction or binding encountered by the USM on shutdown that delays retracting the lens.

If the trouble only appears on shutdown, and does not show up when you zoom the lens, or during auto focus, you will probably be OK for the duration of your trip. Get it looked at before the warranty runs out though. Good luck on your trip.

If the camera spends a long time inside where it's cold and air conditioned, and then gets moved quickly outside where it's warm and humid, condensation can develop. This can cause all kinds of problems.

I'm not a pro, though, so if this is the problem (and I'm not saying that it definately is) someone else with experience is going to have to cough up the best way to avoid this . . .
