I've been hearing different opinions. Some people are happy with their 322RC2 ballhead with heavy camera and lense, some don't recomment it. Those who have 322RC2, could you share your experience?

Hi everyone....any luck with this one? I'm about to buy a ballhead and need some help here. Thanks.

It's sturdy enough, BUT. My gripe with the 322RC2 is that it's just generally a real pain to use if you do a lot of camera adjustments - you need to practice daily with grip strengtheners if you want to use it very much on moving targets.

My personal opinion of all of the grip-type tripod heads is that I will never buy one. I have tried several - some borrowed and some in the stores. NONE of them work well for me. I stick with conventional ball heads, a fluid head (2 axis), and a geared head for all of my work. If I were to get a really long heavy lens and needed to be able to follow action from a tripod, I would probably go for a Wimberly style head.

That's the first time I see Wimberley Head. It seems quite easy to move and the from the picture below, I believe it can handle heavy lenses as well. The only negative point seems to be lack of handle bars to pan the camera IMO.

Trust me - you don't need 'em. I have the similar Jobu Black Widow Heavy Duty (http://www.adorama.com/JDBWGHD2.html) for my 300 2.8; the camera has plenty of grip room and using separate control bars you'd need to have a remote release secured somewhere (as well as you generally need to be panning with your eye to the viewfinder).
