I've seen workover, jackup rigs and platforms but never one like this. That must be an awesome amout of weight on those legs. Also I've never heard of offshore windmills. Nice capture.

I think that's a great ideahttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

the oil rigs are massive and heavy anyway ,
why not an attractive sight
(probably temporary)
looks like it is an 'elevated sailing through the air' cruise ship

there are a few windfarms around this country now.
one in the Irish Sea off the Wicklow coast
way out in the sea , flashing their white stiff sails high in the air

this information is out of date but is it something of what the above is about ?

very nice to see the interesting picture.
it's a different set up from the usual >

was just wondering. may be a different project. wind used for somthing else.
not generating electricity ? you say 'used to install offshore windfarms'
maybe this is the initial set up (in your picture) before the other white 'windmills' are 'planted' ?

thanks

edit
 looking again at your picture
I think they may be the base for the wind propellers shown in the other picture ?
don't know

I've seen workover, jackup rigs and platforms but never one like this. Me, too. I used to get down to the Gulf several times a year to shoot offshore.

I've seen some funky looking boats in my travels... but this is the strangest yet!

as for the pic... yes.. ship looks a bit overexposed... framing could have been better.
were you in a boat being bounced by the waves?? (lot of b's there...)

if you look at the yellow towers you will see the the bright sun was on that side of the ship and thats how it looked with my eyes. if i botherd with photoshop maybe i could tone it down a bit.but you know me i dont bother.the shot is pretty much right out of the camera.:lol:
